An people on here have this problem with British press and other press bigging up Wiggins ...But you fail to understand that without Wiggins few bike races get a mention in the monistream press/media

He is a draw hence the hype

How many ordinary Joe Punters had a bob on him today and tuned into see the race...Some will stick and that is better for cycling even if so many small minded cycling 'experts' cannot see the bigger picture for the sport

That's fine. The Wiggins followers in the UK can enjoy the race and get into cycling - great for them, I'm sure they'll enjoy watching some of the minor continental races later this season.

The rest of us cycling fans can have a wry smile at how ridiculously hyped he was to win a race, the kind of which he has never been very good at.

By your logic everyone should've been a fan of Armstrong

Hell of Career:
TDF Champion
Seven Time World Champion
Four Olympic Golds
Four National Titles
Two Dauphine's
Paris Nice
Romandie
Britain
California

So, top level titles:

TDF Champion
2x Dauphine
Paris-Nice
Romandie

A very good career, but certainly not the palmares of a rider capable of challenging for a monument.

What a ridiculous thing to say

Lance Armstrong is a disqualified rider who admitted to taking EPO
There is no logical connection with what I said about Bradley attracting fans to the sport and everyone being a fan of Armstrong and your attempt to draw a parallel to Wiggins is insidious. This is why people defend Wiggins when trolls like you are determined to besmirch his career

bigger picture for the sport?

Don't think it was that many, considering that unlike last 2 years ITV 4 (hardly a popular channel to begin with) didn't even bother to broadcast highlights of the race.

Umm , Netserk didn't connect Armstrong to wiggins. Not that that would have been a false argument considering wiggins was for a long time armstrongs biggest cheerleader and even his attack dog.

But netserk was not reffering to that.

He used the sentence structure "by your logic...".

Which isn't a comparison but a critique of the logic you are implementing, by bringing up a more extreme example to demonstrate where the logic fails.

A very common sentence structure and argument in the English language.

PS, this is Pro racing section, not the clinic. If you want to talk doping, take that *** to the clinic, don't break the rules and post it here.

Could say the same about most riders really...
Yes, I agree with this.

2012 wiggins was definately capable of challenging for Liege Bastogne Liege. Like most gt riders though he just didn't care about it.

If he started Paris Roubaix earlier he probably could have challenged for it too. Most PR challengers have ridden the cobbles for a good decade before they challenge. Its a race that requires a lot of experience. Last year he was probably as strong as anyone, just didn't have the experience or technique

As someone else has pointed out earlier, this was actually Wiggins' 8th or 9th P-R

3 DNF, 49th, 25th, 90th, 9th and 18th in 8 race starts in Roubaix. Wiggins was indeed never going to win this

Better than Kristoff before this edition.

I am not talking doping I am stating a fact
Are you Netserk's spokesman ??

There is nothing wrong with the logic of what I am sayign about Wiggins and popularity and more people being attracted to cycling by his achievements ...How is this flawed logic ?? It is a fact ...And I see no critique of my logic on Wiggins popularity ...in fact I see one throw away remark and one illigical defense of the throw away remark dressed up to appear like sense

what do you think he was doing by linking my statement of Wiggins attracting people to cycling and introducing Armstrong together with a roll eyes ....what else was he implying ??...

There were other popular rider in the past but the only link was to Armstrong? Of course it is to besmirch Wiggo by association ...

If you are going to make blatant associations then stand by them and not try and turn the tables with illogical arguments on semantics

And Wiggins defended Armstrong before he knew he was guilty of anything ...but so did so many riders
It hardly makes him Armstrongs attack dog
Again you show the need to besmirch Wiggins with such statements beyond a logical debate about thsi career and current achiemnets

As I said trolls ...

Wiggins finished equally destroyed alongside many of the Roubaix & Classics specialists today. Which one do you think will podium in a couple of GTs, grab a World TT and throw in a few week long stage races along the way within the next 5 years? Mmmm, i'm struggling....
