That's fine. The Wiggins followers in the UK can enjoy the race and get into cycling - great for them, I'm sure they'll enjoy watching some of the minor continental races later this season.
The rest of us cycling fans can have a wry smile at how ridiculously hyped he was to win a race, the kind of which he has never been very good at.

How many ordinary Joe Punters had a bob on him today and tuned into see the race...Some will stick and that is better for cycling even if so many small minded cycling 'experts' cannot see the bigger picture for the sport
