Anyone knows how Sky is going to split the team to support Wiggo?


I mean, what will be the core of domestiques? I guess Porte, Cataldo isn't it.

I always think that if Froome wasn't there at Tour perhaps Nibali could gap him on the climbs

Like La Toussuire where Pinot, VdB and Nibali tried something together and when Froome couldn't/declined to pace, he was losing 20 seconds in a half km.
Or when Froome attacked latter the group split in three, with Froome in front, Pinot, Nibali and VdB in the middle and Wiggo dropped.

Peyragudes was at the end of Tdf, so could be a matter of recovery/stamina


In Italy Nibali will have 8 on form guys behind him and Astana hasn't got bad riders. Not the the band he had at Liquigas with the best helpers doing the Giro, an off form Basso and Sagan not caring Nibali's goals (And I think was correct to give Sagan the green light)

A likely scenario is Wiggo taking 2-3 minutes at the long TT and defending the most of stages. And sometimes riding the Tour against a french, Vuelta against a spaniard or Giro against an italian can trigger the local riders helping a little bit the local hope. That has happened many times and it's one of the beauties of cycling to me.

Wiggins will miss Froome's presence in the Giro but I just don't think that Nibali is a much superior climber to Wiggins. He often attacks and just about always gets caught. Rodriguez not riding the Giro won't help either but usually when he attacks it is close to the finish so Wiggins would not lose much time anyway. The Sky team work will protect Wiggins most of the way on mountain stages. I just think that Wiggins will have to have a bad day in the mountains to cancel out the predicted time losses for the other GC riders in the TTs. Of course it's possible. But the other contenders will have to be very aggressive in the mountains to crack Wiggins. I still think Ryder is Wiggin's biggest danger for the Pink Jersey. Sanchez and Gesink could be the surprises if any.

Henao is quoted as saying he's keeping his race schedule the same as 2012, meaning that he'll go to giro and i'd guess that Uran will then be kept fresh for the tour. Knees will probably go to the giro as wiggins lives behind him in the first week of GT's. Dombrowski and Kennaugh seem to be on sky's giro long list but it will be interesting to see whether sky go with both as they're fairly inexperienced. Siutsou may not be back to full fitness so yet so il guess that he and Kiriyenka may support Froome.

Doubt it. Sky will not want to let him go.

That's why they given him Vuelta lead partially. They will offer him contract he will not refuse I am pretty sure of that.

At the end of the year, Uran is more likely to leave than Henao. STill think Henao will not move though.

henao doesn't care about money so much, he cares about the role he gets and colombia, that's why he gave chaves that win in burgos. in sky he knows he will ride with froome and wiggins and henao's goal is to win the tour ultimately, so he needs to leave.

Sky wouldn't sign him pointlessly to leave after 2 years though... just doesn't make any sense to put money and effort for him to leave after 2 years of the project.

I know few talented riders left Sky. But not any of them really proved their expectations. Henao does. And they will net let him leave lightly I believe.

Wiggins should retire in 1/2 years or will be past his best. Froome will not always target Tour imo. Henao will have a shot at Tour next year imo.

However he might leave as you say, Sky will try to obviously keep him a lot.

Henao should stay where he is for as long as he can.
He might get leading role elsewhere, but I don't think he'll advance.

Uran was already great in 2007. We don't really know whether Henao will grow a lot or stay at more or less at the same level for the next few years.

if they wanted him so much they should've signed him for 3 or 4 years like they did with uran

henao has way more margin and is a more natural climber than uran and a leader personality. uran, although physically amazing talent lacks in the mental department and is a real non-winner

both can be achieved of course, even in one season, but I doubt he will ever win roubaix. I think last years 3 days of flanders already put him off that goal

I think this debate shows us that team sky may be very effective at getting their riders to a high physical peak but because they have so many high quality riders in the squad they may not get the chance to actually lead the team and make use of their form.

How many other squads genuinely have four grand tour podium contenders? Arguably richie porte will want to lead a team at a grand tour as well making a total of five. On top of that EBH would be the leader in many other world tour teams as a stage hunter.

Do you go elsewhere and lead a different team who perhaps dont have the facilities/coaches/resources and therefore you perhaps aren't in such prime condition when the GT roles round. Or do you bide your time at team sky realising that chances will be less but your chance of success is higher?

On a related note, some said that wiggins should retire in 1/2 years. I just finished is autobiorgraphy; he says hed like to race 2 more years on the road then return to the track for two years hoping to win gold at rio in team pursuit and retire. Though obviously any plans can change
