Radio 5. Lol.

That'll be Radio 5, the main sports broadcaster on British radio. That's where you'll find the Olympics, the World Cup, the Champions League, the Premiership, Six Nations Rugby, Wimbledon, the Open, the current Athletics Worlds. etc, etc

Don't let the number fool you. It was just the fifth to be created. 1= Pop music, 2= Older pop music, 3= Classical, 4= Speech radio (news, plays, comedy, features) , 5= News & Sport (but mostly sport)

It's a friggin' radio station... I don't even consider that proper sports broadcasting unless you're in a car.

Cycling isn't the most popular sport in the UK and it's the responsibility of British Cycling to promote the sport. My friend works part-time for British Triathlon giving presentations at schools trying to promote youth involvement. They managed to get the triathlon test event shown in full with pre-race and post-race discussion on BBC2. It was also given the majority of air-time during the test events highlights show whilst the London Surrey Classic was squeezed in.

The BBC shows F1 but it's popular and the UK is at the centre of world Motorsport. 120,000 people went to Silverstone last weekend to watch the Renault World Series because of a promotion. Cycling can't compete against that and needs to actively and excessively promote itself in the UK and now is the perfect time as the public have people to root for in Cavendish and Wiggins.

Sky has poached all of the popular sports off the BBC and a void has appeared through a lack of events. Jake Humphrey is the only young sports presenter on the BBC's books and it needs more because Balding, Irving, Barker and Co. aren't going to last forever - and are very annoying - but there isn't a sport regularly shown on the BBC that allows aspiring presenters and production teams to gain experience in a relatively pressure free environment. Cycling would be perfect for it, the case just has to be made.

Finally, Ski Sunday is superb.

...and Wiggins is a don.

I suspect they will still keep Brad and and just leave Chris out of Dom duties for the time being. No definitive descion made yet.

That's a tricky thing as I'm sure you know. Like right this moment on the final climb of stage 11, it's likely to get down to just Froome and Wiggins from Sky. If both riders are doing well but the chosen team leader is Wiggins, then Froome should pull Wiggins as long as he can with the hope of launching Wiggins from there. Otherwise they trade efforts and a team leader burns more energy than he'd have to otherwise.

If he does lose the jersey, (by less than say 30 secs) the fingers will be pointing at the TTT.

That should have been a plus for them against other rivals, instead it has been a little bit of a millstone round thier neck this race.

Funny to see people in the prediction thread laughing at the mere suggestion of people picking Wiggins for a possible victory... I predict a bandwagon if he has a strong finish on Tuesday and does his predicted performance on the ITT (I still think he has little chance overall).
I agree with me - all utterly predictable. I guess this and the Clinic thread count for this forum's unique take on the term "bandwagon".

Sky have themselves to blame for the bad TTT. They split the team up way too early so when an incident occured, they were screwed.

Yeah fully a team screw-up, but one very out of character for them. Not sure whose brain farted, but someones surely did.

There is something not quite right about the performance of Wiggins and Froome...

Meaning what ?

I was irrationally pleased to see their effort yesterday, and chuffed that Wiggo has the jersey.
Seems a week long race is perfect for him, not sure how he'll fair with the rest of the race though.

Meaning Wiggins hasn't raced since falling off in July and Froome has done nothing all year, and all of a sudden they are both riding out of their skins in a way that neither of them has before. In the Dauphine, Wiggins was hanging on for dear life on the last day and last week totally misjudged his effort in Salamanca and yet they both beat Cancellara.

Perhaps i have seen this too many times but when when you see an unbelievable performance, it's hard to belive that it's true.

Not sure Cancellara is an appropriate benchmark for the TT anymore, given how 'average' he has been all year.

As for the climbing, probably best to look at the names who are also climbing well this tour. If Wiggins is on a new training program, so are 15 other guys.

The problem here is 'big names' underperforming, rather than the layer below suddenly riding at 7W/kilo.
