Oh God. Not this again.

I don't care if he had a full blown hurricane behind him, the fact of the matter is, he shredded the entire field showing as much fatigue as a gorilla crushing an aluminium can.

Where was the Cat 5 1000km/hr windstorm helping Contador and the others?

Skybot 101: Repeat the same argument over and over again until everyone either jumps off a bridge or accepts it as the truth, while completely ignoring the bigger picture.

Twitter must be slow lately since Walsh Jr is joining in on the fun too

Does it acctually matter anyway ? I once was up Ventoux and could barly open the car door. the recreational riders riders almost got blown from one side of the road to the other by gust of wind. And the conditions were the same for all riders in the TDF. Ok the wind might have changed a little.

The others should have ridden as fast as Froome, now they all know to remain seated and spin the pedals like there's no chain. Not his fault the rest of the peloton rode like a bunch of Sunday drivers :p

10 char.

Hasn't this shield bashing gone on before? I swear this was done and dusted before. But here the Clinic is again.

Like you say Alphabet, it doesn't matter if Froome had a hand fan behind him as his only wind aid or a typhoon, he still massacred Alberto Contador and made him look like a chump. Anyone who thinks that is legit is pulling people's legs. NOT NORMAL.

End of. Period.

That day the mistral, the famous north wind of Rhône valley, was blowing, typically of high pressure on France meaning a East or NE wind on top of mountain. But that kind of weather are mostly affected by aerology, sun warms soils, rocks,... warm air climbs slopes of mountains.
In that kind of conditions is more likeky that the wind at the top of mountains was not much in favour of riders, maybe not too much headwind but for sure not a tailwind able to help a lot.

French Commentary

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eiN2vfGKhk

Have a listen to this French TV footage..they mention the wind at 4minutes and comment how they have never seen a performance like this on Ventoux.

At 4.35 they comment that Froome is talking on race radio like its a SPORTIVE. Be good if someone could interpret whats being said on the entire clip.

At 6minutes they say the wind is coming from the left of the riders...but also comment on the assistance the motorbikes are giving Froome and Quintana.

At 7.50 they say the wind is a headwind / sidewind.

Apparently the tailwind followed Froome the whole way up. On each turn.

When you really want it to be a tailwind. It will be a tailwind.

It keeps you from looking what's underneath.

Ask the witnesses on the grassy knoll what they saw :)

While I applaud everyone attempts to find parts of the course with a headwind it does not change the fact that 80% of the 21 km climb had a tailwind. As the route changes direction past CR this same wind hit the riders largely from the side.

Pointing out this very obvious fact does not mean I am employed by Sky, trying to Protect Walsh, Froome, or anyone else it just means I can read a map and watch a video.

Probably that is tailwind through the forest, but trees limit drastically its effect, and that is more usefull for the riders ending the pack.
I have not checked it but I have read somewhere that Froome had been one of the fastest for the last km. So even if the wind were a bit helpfull, that brings a lot of questions about his cleanless.
Maybe we should, as we have done for the famous fastest ITT of Lemond, compare the last km of many riders. If all are "faster" than usual that could mean that they had all benefited from tailwind.

RR, are you suggesting that what tailwind there was on the lower slopes affected the times in such a way that they can't be compared to other ascents?

If not, there isn't much point. If so, I don't see it. The video which I watched in it's entirety last night shows little or no tree movement in the early slopes. It can't have affected times in any meaningful way.

I watched carefully. The wind was coming from the WSW, almost directly a headwind on the last pitch before the 180 at the finish line. Mostly a cross to headwind on the exposed portions, with some turns in the road showing it as a cross/tail wind. That Phil Liggett felt the "wind is changing direction" was really funny to hear as if the road was running straight up the hill. Though he did note the change in effect as the road (not the wind direction) moved.

Whatever the wind. Froome destroyed everyone all riding in the same wind conditions as Froome.

you would think that if everyone was getting pushed up by a vortex that there would be more riders from 2013 higher on the list.

Agreed. he crushed a quality field with insane attacks.

Note, my original offhand post on the wind was not as a defense of Froome but to point out the variables on Ventoux make it difficult to use for W/Kg, VAM, etc. I made it clear that I thought that Alp d'Huez and the Semnoz were better examples of questionable performance.

9 of 31 times were done in 2013. Given the history of the climb, and the sport, that is significant amount

This is pretty bad, I hope you get good money out of your scandalous lying. [edit: the bold part]

Good thing you did the same thing with Hesjedal last year on Pampeago.

Must be hanging on JV's bike too much. In the Giro you will get disqualified for that, you should know. Otherwise ask the bestfriend of your lunchbuddy ;)

So times should be slower this year than 2002?
That is open for interpretation but in my world blooddopers will be significantly faster than clean athletes.

And, do note the tailwinds for Armstrong and the 1994 stage.

Why was Contador so much slower this year than in 2009? Bet he missed a couple pints of blood.

I'm sure he means well.

I don't know why he wants to believe so much.

His choice and his opinion. My 20+ years in cycling say Sky are doping their collective heads off.

Watch Valverde at the Vuelta. He'll go medio genius and get lambasted for it.

Life.
