Which is it?

Are you now saying that there was no wind for the first part of the climb?
Please be clear.
I was clear: RR didn't acknowledge, unlike what you stated.

now did you check the footage and if so, did you spot any (considerable) tailwind in the forest?

I think I've been clear: unlike RR, I think there was considerably less than 80% tailwind and at least segments with strong headwinds in the final 4-5 km, making the 2013 edition of the Ventoux an excellent yardstick for comparing Froome's performance against the historical performances of armstrong and others, unlike RR who thinks we should look at other climbs.

No, you are not being clear.

You said "considerably less than 80% tailwind and at least segments with strong headwinds in the final 4-5 km".

Please clear up considerably less - are we talking headwind, tailwind, crosswind, and where, thanks.

you tell me to clear up, so as to deflect away from your own false statements. so here we go again: RR didn't acknowledge what you say he acknowledged.

I'm gonna' take the metaphorical approach on this one...

I have made no false statement.

Again, you seem more interested in talking about RR, than the wind (the subject of the thread)- which is what I am asking you to clear up. Please do so.

Back that up, or shut up.
Repeat it and I will report you.

i ask you to read up on the thread, so that you know what it's actually about. let me help you out: it's not about RR but about a statement he makes/made wrt the ventoux.
you knew/know that of course, so why not stick to the topic and stop derailing. the thread was getting quite interesting before you vortexed your way into it.

And it could have been any fool foolhardily insisting on the hitherto unfounded claim of 80% tailwind, but it happened to be RR.
I am not the one deflecting.

I 'vortexed 'my way in because YOU asked for the Dan Martin quote - and then you tried to dismiss it when it didnt back up your hopes.

You appear to disagree with RR - so, please be clear in what you are suggesting was the wind on Ventoux.

Also, can you stop with the heavy edits on your posts.

I have no problem with minor corrections or even clarifications - but that is twice that you have deleted significant portions of your post.

When they send the Vortex in you know they have no argument.

I'm off to watch reruns of Columbo.

Leave this to the Cortex Vortex.

Capiche?
Capisco and apologies.
But one seriously wonders, does Dr. Maserati specialize in derailing threads that threaten to become interesting? If a mod could please delete the exchanges in this thread between me and dr. maserati, i'd be most thankful. As usual it's off topic hairsplitting, at a point where things were about to become interesting. Sincere apologies for my part in that.

yeah, i know.
and it's a petty, because RR was just being confronted with some interesting statements and some interesting math, and it would have been interesting to see him respond to that.

Why would you want a mod to do that?
You wrote it (even did some severe edits) and only stopped posting when I said I would report the made up stuff.
Write it, own it, simple.

And this thread "was becoming interesting"? After 170 posts? Really?

Ah, so this is about RR.

When you get up off your knees, at any point you wish to make a clear point about the wind, and what it was doing on the stage, then do so.

@Mas

What you are doing in this thread is very similar to what got you banned. Please desist.

doc, can we please get this thread back on topic?
i edited my posts with the purpose of removing off topic comments, of which i was indeed also guilty.
the topic of this thread is narrow and clear, let's stick to that and quit the hairsplitting.

Dear Sittingbison & Netserk,

I wish to express my deep remorse and sincere apologies for derailing after 18 pages, this informative and important thread about wind which was started in my absence and has only been closed once.

I now regret posting a link to a Dan Martin quote that a user could not find.
It is no excuse, at the time I was young and naive and I believed I was assisting them by linking to a fact/quote - I now acknowledge doing so was against the spirit of this thread.
I was wrong. Forgive me.

Having viewed the picture - which in no way is personal, or shows bias, and is amusing and colourful - I now feel I have matured in that time.
Having reflected on it for almost 8 seconds it became apparent that when someone said that I was making false statements and deflecting that I was entirely to blame for requesting the poster to desist or that I would report it.
It was a moment of weakness.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you both.
You have not only saved this amazing thread which was oh so close to finding out the direction of the wind after a week and almost 19 pages, but you may have saved this poster too.

You should all feel proud of your timely, decisive intervention.
This goes beyond this thread (which BTW is fantastic & important), or even a cycling internet forum, what you espouse is the very fabric of humanity and a civilised society.
Your clear leadership, patience, sense of justice and ability to post amusing pictures is an inspiration to all that you moderate and gives hope in these dark days that will inspire future generations.

Thank you.

The thread has been informative. The arguments from both sides have been expanded to greater length and both sides now know more about the arguments from the other side. In fact even since it has been reopened we have found out about the srm data.

I have no idea why people claim this thread had not been informative.

Oh Hitch you have me to thank for that. I messaged Sittingbison and asked why it had been closed. It seemed unreasonable to me. He agreed and reopened it.

Hitch I,ll look forward to your flowers at my door
