The is no clear favourite for this TT. Ganna, Van Aert, Remco and Küng are the ones that I see winning this though. I think the length of the TT favours mostly Ganna but he has not been looking his best self lately while I think Küng is the least likely to win out of these as he usually doesn't do so well in longer efforts. Remco did the best flat TT effort this season in the Giro but is his shape as good as in May? I have my doubts. Van Aert would be my favourite for this if he had the old set-up but he hasn't impressed me this season so I think he and Remco will be on the podium behind Ganna once again.

Regarding the outsiders, I do think though, we can expect a great performance from Josh Tarling. He is just 19, but so was Remco when he was second in 2019 and the fact that he was so close to Ganna in Wallonie makes me think he will top5 this. Asgreen is another one that I think could do really well, he was 4th in Leuven over a similar distance and at least on the flat is looking really strong. Pogacar doesn't have a good route here, I would be surprise if he improves his 6th place last year. As for Foss, I don't even think he will finish in the top10.

Uzbekistan really missed their chance at a world title here. Muradjan Khalmuratov and Aleksey Fomovskiy are here. Instead, what they should have done, is select Ulugbek Saidov, the rider of the greatest time trial in history. Not Cap Decouverte, not Combloux, not Luxembourg. This right here.

Seeing all these riders with non TT bicycles reminds one that calling this "World Championship" does not make it really fair among all nations in the world.

Cycling is a capital-intensive sport. Without teams, infrastructure, races, nutrition and technology this is really just a competion between some nations. It's like calling Algeria for Winter Olympics.

I’d be 100% on board with a minimalist mandated setup for TTs, sort of like what they do for the Merckx hour record. But since they can’t profit off that it’ll never happen.

Rohan's last dance, hopefully he gives up halfway and kicks off in the press just to give us one last moment from the old master.

Joshua Tarling looks like the under 12s Sunday league guy who hit puberty like a wrecking ball

We were all about 4 foot 6 stone soaking wet and there would be a 6 foot 3 stacked guy with a beard everyone would just bounce off, probably came to the games in his own car.

I won't do predictions (I'm very bad at it), but freshness will be key.
So I can see Ganna as a favourite as much as Evenepoel, WvA, Kung,...

For sure one of the favourites will falter, and one of the underdogs / lesser talked about riders will excell.

All this talk about freshness and yet Pogi and Vingo smashed the field in a ITT after two weeks of riding the Tour. Regarding fatigue, I reckon that tops the WCR and five days of resting.

Is it just me or is the startlist this year really stacked ? There are so many realistic candidates for a top 5 or even a podium.

The only big names I can think off that are missing are the Jumbo duo Vingegaard/Roglic and the Ineos duo Hayter/Sheffield.
Where's Jonas, the biggest ITT monster in 2023? I was expecting a record breaking performance.

That TT was tailor-made for their profile (excellent flat time triallists being superb climbers), so that was absolutely no surprise to me.

If Pogacar is relatively fresh, this is quite a good TT IF (only if) those little hills are slowing down the riders a bit. But I don't see him getting any better than a 5-10th, maybe a top 5 but not featuring on the podium. Happy to eat my words though!
