The one big mistake was Vollerings reaction being too slow when Van Vleuten was ahead. Aside from that the mistakes were pretty small
Yeah, you can't do a lot when the clear cut favourite is that strong, despite everything.

Blanka has to turn her hat around to start the interview to make sure the logo is visible, good girl, you'd have got a telling off for that.

The small gap in the end surprised me, but to me it's confirmation Vollering couldn't win because of the course cause the form and racing fitness were absolutely there.

The thing is at the TdFF that was the teams nickname for her because she got the green jersey and a green bike 😂

She generally positioned herself poorly relative to Kopecky in the group.

True, but I can't think of many shorter races where Van der Poel outclassed him. Strade 2021 and that's pretty much it.
I see it mainly as Van der Poel peaking for the biggies like nothing else tbh. IMO Van Aert did perform in those races.

Van Aert also did get gapped on Kwaremont in E3 this year, which is like 160km into the race? Then 2 days later he was the only one to HODL Laportes wheel for the full 260km.

AVV rode an outstanding race when you consider she head two mechanicals and managed to catch up a minute after her first mechanical. Reusser effort today showed her form was decent enough for the ITT if she didn't give up.

U23 gold for Vas.
The best thing to come from this race for me is Blanka winning the U23 race. A shame we won't get to see her wearing the jersey.

I guess I'm happy CUL was on the podium as well.

I do wonder how the race would have unfolded if Kasia and Chloe Dygert hadn't gotten sick. They would have surely been in the mix and are both very explosive.

Reusser is just another data point in the massive list of data points that prove a hard GT or stage race before another race is great for a hard road race but terrible for an ITT championship.

Vaughters doesn't like her either ? 😲
Back when her secret ban for skipping tests (that had been kept hidden and she was telling people she was skipping races to prepare for the Olympics when she was really provisionally suspended) was overturned and he was asked his opinion:

Jonathan Vaughters‏@Vaughters

@timross21 no idea. As a person, she's horrible. Not nice at all. But I have no idea on this story.

I don't think I've ever heard the Belgian anthem with crowd accompaniment singing before.

I don't know what Guazzini did to Milesi after he missed out on a medal yesterday, but it was nice of her to be present at the finish to congratulate Cille.

Tbh if Vaughters hated me I'd take it like a badge of honor.

Pretty subdued by CUL standards, she was very touched, proud and very, very tired. Puked more than once on the course, said it was the hardest race she has ever done.
Shedding weight may have paid dividends when it came to attacking later

I think everyone who finished in the top 17 had a great ride.

Surprised to see Manly finish, she was dropped after a mechanical on the start of the mountain climb. Also great to see Agnieszka have a great week. A future star.

I lost a lot of the Lizzie love over the way that whole episode was handled.

But I wonder how their paths crossed in such a way for him to say that.

It's weird because normally the gossip about any rider quickly becomes public knowledge, whilst I doubt there are many former teammates of hers likely to give glowing positive feedback, and maybe that's simply it, but you'd think you'd hear more stories about what the 'not being nice' means.

Shame the secret pro doesn't write any new columns.

She rode for the Cervélo women's team that he inherited when Slipstream merged with Cervélo Test Team, stole money from to sign Thomas Dekker, and then dismantled.

We heard quite a bit from within the péloton at the time of her reprieve about perceived preferential treatment and arrogance. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot said more than most, but then got cowed into silence by Phil Deignan airing details of her private life to keep her quiet. Valentina Scandolara was another who spoke up about Lizzie not being liked in the bunch.
