In a couple of days the UCI Road World Championships in Zurich start. We first have some para-cycling, but in Sunday afternoon it's already time for the Men's Elite Individual Time Trial.

The 2024 Men's Elite Time Trial begins in Oerlikon, a bustling district in Zurich known for its vibrant energy. Riders will face a challenging route with an elevation gain of 413 meters, which includes a significant climb that will test their endurance and pacing. The climb, while not the steepest, demands sustained effort and careful management of power output, which makes it a challenge, especially in the latter stages of the race where fatigue will play a major role.

The course finishes at Sechseläutenplatz, a scenic square near Lake Zurich, offering a spectacular setting for the race’s conclusion. The mix of urban complexity and hill difficulty makes this time trial both technical and exciting.

Profile
The 46 km time trial isn't technical, and doesn't have a lot of corners, besides the descent. It has three intermediate time checks, spaced about 10-14 km apart, providing ample data points to gauge how each rider is performing throughout the race.

Climb to the top of Uetikon am See

This is where we'll see some riders make a difference, and others will have to try to limit their losses.

Mittelberg

Since this comes right after a descent, they'll practically fly over that first climbing part. I don't expect the heavier riders to lose much time here.

Weather
The weather seems to be looking good at the moment. A nice 22 degrees with sunny intervals and a slight wind.

Nope but rumour was he wouldn't ride and provisional startlists (like PCS) don't list him.
Yesterday he stated he will ride, so it will be him and Affini.
It's in 4 days, I find it weird that they haven't disclosed their team yet. Even more so that the deadline hasn't passed yet.

Official team has been disclosed a few minutes ago. Affini and Ganna for the ITT.
Cattaneo will join them for the Mixed Relay along with Paladini, ELB and... Realini.
Thanks for the update, will update the competitors list tomorrow. I hope by then most teams will have shared their lineup so it's more up-to-date.

Been looking around, are there really no official climb profiles for either TT or RR this year? I guess I know what I'll be up to this week...

I think Tarling could be very strong. The hill will be some interruption for him but I think his chances for gold are good, especially if Evenepoel is not at his very best.

I am wondering what sort of form Tarling is carrying currently. Obviously his prologue in la Vuelta was a massive disappointment, but it's been all smoke and mirrors since he crashed. And I haven't seen any updates regarding his health since.

Usually I don't care these Mickey mouse championships, but I'm really excited to find out whether the 'post-covid landa' of TT championships, Nelson oliveroa, will finish in 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th. Vamos Nelson!

Setting aside form after crash which is an unknown- Remco would still start as strong favourite particularly with the climb in the middle, albeit a relatively short one.

I would not read too much into the vuelta prologue itself which was relatively short for him and was wind affected. Still without a gague one form i’d put him in the second rung of favourites all fighting for a podium

The provisional start list shows Persico as starting in the mixed relay and not Realini. Is there any source for that because I don‘t believe that.
