I watched The O'Reilly Factor on Fox for the first time last night (I was watching it for the lulz), is this guy actually serious or some form of satire? I mean raging over 'liberal media', attempting to compare Abe Lincoln to Barack Obama (from his book that is about the last two weeks of Lincoln's life), fighting the 'war' over the use of 'Happy Holidays' to 'Merry Christmas', and even slammed one town because they had a Festivus pole.

This clown is actually the main inspiration for 'The Colbert Report' He's even had Stephen on his show in an attempt to prove what a good sport he is, but it was obvious he was using every ounce of willpower he could muster to keep from leaping across the table to strangle Colbert. :p

Dont see why he would try to compare Lincoln to Obama. Lincoln is generally regarded as a great if not the greatest, and Obama being from Ilinois and having no political experience, tried to compare himself to Lincoln a lot.

Oreilly is an idiot. He is nowhere near the worst of them but he is still bad enough as to cause his own side more harm than good and that is pretty bad.

As a historian the idea that this guy would attempt to write a book about Lincoln is depressing.

Glad to see he chose a yet untouched topic to lend his historical skills to:rolleyes:

It says he got a basic degree in history from some college 40 years ago, and then taught in high school.

What perfect qualifications to write about Lincoln.

LOL... awfully picky for someone who reads and cheerleads for the likes of D'nish Duzooza

We read in the dailies today about groups of young American professionals dressing up as comic book superheroes after work going out to defend the weak and the innocent from the dastardly forces of evil and criminality on the streets of "Gotham City" all across the US. With names like "Asylum" and "Red Voltage" they go about putting things right and making the world a better place.

Do-it-yourself justice.

But when will they realize that fourth grade was in the past and what's needed is real social reform? Or that the Black Shirts and the KKK did the same thing? In short when will they start paying attention to history.

Try listening to Glen Beck sometime. I get the feeling that 90% of Beck's schtick is a cynical act but his followers are too stupid to realize they are being played.

"History" seems to be a category that doesn't apply to american thought sadly, and also not very mucch to the rest oft the "modern" world.
It seems to me that Positivism has won on a huge scale, and Positivism has no sense and can't have a sense of history at all.

But maybe, after enough bull**** happened the way people think about the world will change. If you consider how pathetic the "masters of the universe" seem to most people now, there might be hope after all.

Exactly. Strange enough though, when he first gone on CNN he was fairly straight forward. He had some good guests, and offered a center-right, outside perspective on things. I think when FOX picked him up, he realized there was an opportunity with the FOX audience, and seized it.

Same with the occupy movements. Outside of the initial protest, then only active thing I've seen them take is the millionaires march, where they walked to the richest homes in NYC. But even that's a problem is it's not the rich that's the problem, per se, it's the corrupt bond between government and the crooked rich - which they focus on Wall Street (partly true). But if that's their focus, what they should do is occupy the NYSE on a key day. Sure, they'll all get arrested, but that would make more of a point. Certainly more than this comic book nonsense.

The other thing they should do is occupy Congress. Let's see them head to DC and confront politicians the way some journalists do from time to time and hammer them with questions demanding answers. Again, some may get arrested, but the point would get better taken.

i think this time, iran’s threat to close the strait of hormuz is dead serious because they’re in a stronger position than in 2008.
http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/27/markets/oil_iran/index.htm?hpt=hp_t2

unlike the 2008 threat, this time, it‘s backed up by a much stronger navy, not to mention the us/europe’s own vulnerability to increased oil prices in the midst of their own economic and financial crisis.

i can see the us cowing japan and the eu (to switch suppliers) and it’s arab allies (to pick up the iranian oil export share). but i seriously doubt that such global veracious consumers like china and india will bet against their own vital economic needs to simply placate washington. recent history reliably shows that once america gets what it wants, it can safely 'reschedule' or 're-negotiate' its promises. there are fewer and fewer idiots left in this world who haven't experienced the us tactic and who don't see the drastically reduced us leverages (short of a downright military invasion)

putin is certainly another player who has little to gain (excepting temporarily higher oil prices) from playing along. not only he is involved in his own oil-driven geo-politics but he's still fuming from being disabused (in his view) on too many occasions. besides, putin's record shows that whilst protecting russia's own interests, the degree to which he is willing to engage in duplicity can be matched only by washington politicians.

i’m afraid that the huge nato naval presence paired to iranian ‘who blinks first’ policy can result in a very serious miscalculation on either side and lead to an explosion of hostilities.

On a totaly unrelated note, another poster was banned for breaking this rule today.

You know in regards to Cuba and the mafia goes, it all goes back to prohibition and the Havana-Mafia connection to transform, under the direction of Capone, Lucky Luciano, etc. and the local government authorities, the island into a US haven for alcohol, gambling and prostitution. The decades long relationship between Cuba the US Italian mafia and US authorities begins here, in edition of course to the avid interests of United Fruit Co.

Was at the hotel in Havana where Al Capone stayed, renting the entire sixth floor, to pick up the car.

Then, after Batista fell the first time, the Cuban dictator secretly met with the mafia at Daytona Beach, Florida. A deal was evidently struck, for which the mafia would ensure his political position as head of state in exchange for a share in the profits at the Cuban casinos and brothels. All with the tacit support of the US intelligence. But when Castro, Che and co. did their revolucion thingy and, subsequently, Castro got all cozy with the Soviets; the CIA and the mafia, using displaced right wing Cuban exhiles, organized a conspiracy to eliminate Castro and take back the island. However overestimating the prospects of a victory by the pro-US Cubans alone, Kennedy didn't want to give full US air support to the infamous Bay of Pigs mission, thereby essentially leaving the CIA trained Cuban mercenaries to their fate: and this plausibly may have created for the US president many sworn enemies, both within the US secret service and the Italian mafia.

Having now thouroughly analyzed the situation, I'm increasingly convinced that they, the mafia and the CIA, were behind Kennedy's assassination and for this reason.

Lets get this straight. You "prefer to read a political thread" yet everytime redtrevisio insults another poster or mocks another poster, you find absolutely no need to ask him to keep the thread political.

Yet about 3 seconds after I protest against this contemptible behavior, you decide "excuse me I do have my standards" ?

Id respect your wish, if it had at least a bit of consistency.

Did someone appoint you as mod when we weren't looking? You (thankfully) hardly ever post in this topic, so why don't you run along and increase your stunning number of 'I know everything better' posts somewhere else?

edit - strange how the moment after you post anything you appear to be offline...and then you're online again to reply.....and then you're offline again.....etc and so on.
