I still think it's safe to say Cavendish won't win. He'll either abandon or do what he did in the Commonwealth Race.

I don't think it's safe to say anything. He will have 7 pros on his team looking after him. He may not win but he's still a chance. Remember the stage he beat Gilbert this year? Or the stage he beat hushovd in 2009? Both were uphill "stong man" sprints. I don't think it's safe to ever rule out Cav

The sprint wasn't exactly uphill, only 1% or so, there was a slight uphill (5%) proceeding the sprint which he had to get over.

The Copenhagen finish rises almost to the line, it is much more like the drawn out sprints won by Bozic and Hushovd in the TdS than Cap Frehel.

Should Cavendish be left with few teammates, if there are any of his HTC teammates at the finish (doesn't matter what nation), they'll set up the HTC train and work for him if the riders they're working for aren't there. This ain't right is it? And I doubt they'll do it. It might **** off the directors.

Cav will have at least 4 riders near the end for him ( Wiggins, Swift, Thomas, Froome??? ). Also why would riders like Renshaw, Goss and Howard work for him when they have they have the chance to win. Also Ramussen can do a nice sprint along with Degenkolb.

Alex Rasmussen might be the Danish captain if Matti Breschel don't get well after his crash. And Denmark has one of the best teams there is. It was the only team with 3 riders on the last lap in Geelong outnumbering both Italy, Belgium etc. In Varese, 2008, Denmark was only outnumbered by Italy. Except for Matti there are no superstars, but a lot of team spirit and willingness to sacrifice for each other. And off course the advantage of thousands of spectators standing along the course yelling GO MATTI!!! or whatever we will yell in a month. There is definately a top three for Denmark. And if Matti is ready we will win. That is the truth ;-)

Imo the main contenders will be Norway, Belgium and perhaps Australia.

I was actually wondering if Alex could decide to skip the RR to concentrate on the TT... After all; he is also a pretty decent TT'er.

What do we reckon then on the British 8?

Cav, Wiggins, Millar, Thomas, Froome, Swift, Stannard, Hammond?

No room for Cummings, Downing, Dowsett, Lloyd, Hunt, Blythe or Kennaugh.

Who's the leadout man? Swift?

You would think that Rojas will be the Plan B for Spain, even if they are saying that all their chips are on Freire.

For the Dutch among us..who is looking to be riding for the Netherlands?
For the ITT Clement and Westra

For the road race it's hard... you want people who can handle 260km, Poels, Langeveld, Boom, Gesink, and people who can actually do something on this course like Ligthart.. but there's like 20 guys to chose from, and nobody really has a shot at winning.

It's kinda like zolder, we have nothing to search here. Unless Kenny van Hummel or Theo Bos flame to victory lol

What's Germany looking like? Who's gonna be looking out for Greipel?
I guess they will have bert grabsch( I can't spell it:S) to help he was pretty good at htc for lead outs, I guess tony martin will be there aswell, infact there have been a lot of germans who have done a good job at htc as lead out men... Like mr greenedge said Kittel and degenkolb too, ciolek is not bad I wonder if he will go along he can sprint a bit and was good at lead outs for cavendish... How many sprinters can they take though, I think gerdemann will be there aswell, it will be interesting to see who is the leader for germany because I wouldn't trust Greipel to be in a good position at the end :S

Bos and Van Hummel (sorry TRDean) after 260k isn't even funny. That's just sad.

They may be ok if there allowed to do relays :D. On a serious note what about Tom Veelers? He seems strong enough to handle the distance and again seems to have a good kick what are his chances on starting?

Well actually in a little interview with the guardian Wiggo actually said he wants to help Cav especially as he thinks he has a very good chance so it appears hes going.

Saying that the more a look at this route and more I convince my self eddie Bos wont have to work for Thor the more he becomes favourite to me
