I think I will be watching stage 3 of last year's Giro tonight.

*Those are the storys that can only be written by life, death or destiny.
This sidenote somehow can't be real and is hard to take, but it is real. Really sad.

But there are more and more sidenotes and more tragedy.

- he crashed hard in Grand Prix de l'Escaut in April
- riding this Giro was actually not in HIS plan
- he was worried about dangerous and nervous racing (SMS to manager, while I hope this is not made up by media, or some other confusion)
- his wife is pregnant
- he saved a live before
Perhaps there are even some more sidenotes to add.

Yesterday I was really trashed, it was shocking to see and a sad ending, that still has to settle.
When it comes to following race further on - I am emotionally dead right now.
I didn't know Wouter personally and never met him, but it is anyway always sad to see, when "one of our boys" we follow so closely, suddenly passes away or gets heavily hurt.
Of course thats in most cases virtual, somehow limited and far away misery. Surely no comparison to what all these people, who are really involved and in close relationship to Wouter, had and still have to go through.
It might sound harsh, but I consider the fact, that it was immediately over, as a little solace. At least for me personally.

Another, but really unimportant sidenote is, what I actually recognized when I had a look at twitter this morning.
The latest twitterer I started following..........that truly was Wouter Weyland.
A fact that then leads me to the beginning of this post again.*

Moments like this brings us closer together. it's impossible not to feel sad when you read all the condolences. So many people has so many beautiful things to say about Wouter. He was clearly loved by many.
Wouter leaves a pregnant wife behind. I'm speechless...

Yesterday was beautifully handled. The race organisers, riders, teams, fans & commentators deserve a huge pat on the back. Hard to imagine how they could have given Wouter a better send off.
The finish was incredibly touching, I didnt really want to watch it but I'm glad I did. Was one of those moments that really transcends sport.

I shall certainly be contributing to the fund.

Just wondering is there any footage of Wouter's team on the ceremony after yesterdays' stage with the picture of Wouter?

RIP Wouter

Another thing I've been thinking about.

You know how we all agree how terrible it is that his child will have to grow up without a daddy? But imagine if there had been a young child watching it

Its impossible to know if the child will be better off being spared the pain of losing a father, but have you ever heard the saying:

"Better to have loved and lost, than never loved at all."

I think this applies here.
