Wouter Weylandt RIP.

Um, maybe this isn't appropriate for this thread, but do pro contracts include life insurance? I gather from this thread that he was to become a father. If so, Weylandt's partner is, as well as dealing with her grief, having to contemplate raising their child alone. I hope that, at least, any money worries are taken care of.

Without a doubt. We have it in every sports association and this will be seen as a work casualty.

It's so sad ...

I lost my father in similar circumstances.
It is a tragedy and i am glad these tragic incidents only occur rarely.
Thoughts , love and prayers go to his family and friends and all those
who love road racing and feel the loss of a brother today
RIP Wouter

Both Millar and Horrillo have talked about thinking of their own families if it had been them (or in Horrillo's case, when it *was* him) when they heard the news. I've been thinking of what it must have been like for Weylandt's relatives, especially his wife, if they were watching the stage live. It's a pretty horrifying thought. No complaints about Rai, everybody seems to agree they dealt with the situation as well as they possibly could, but not all the media has been up to the same standard, which is pretty disgusting.

Still in shock and deeply saddened. So young, so much to look forward to. My heart goes out to those who loved him.

Some small solace in the fact that it happened so quickly.

Wouter Weylandt
RIP

Terribly unsettling.

So very tragic.

Universal Sports opted to replace this evening's race coverage with footage from Woulter Weylandt's Stage 3 win from the 2010 Giro.
A beautiful way to remember him.

Thoughts and prayers to all who were touched by him.
