I know a lot of people make this mistake so this is nothing to you personally, but it is Chaves with an s and I am annoyed with how many people make the mistake as Chaves is a star in this sport. Same goes with Vanmarcke (not Van Marcke or whatever) and Kreuziger (not Kreuzinger), maybe we should have a thread with cycling names written wrong :p.

Contador
Nibali
Valverde

In that order.

I need to find some new blood. Sooner or later some youngster will come along and steal my heart and make the follow until he retires list like the 3 above. All selected young, all getting up there :(.

You must be really old! If Valverde became your favourite while he was still young... :p

?? I'm not old and I started watching cycling 13 years before this rider started to disgrace this sport as a pro. This being said when I started watching cycling, it was the moment this sport really started to be disgraced.

Only disgrace is what you wrote! And what's your argument, his doping penalty, right? Does that makes Coppi, Gaul, Anquetil, Merckx, Hinault, Kelly, Fignon... disgrace too? If yes, what's the history of this sport?! If no, what the hell are you talking about! Do you think life and sport for that matter are black and white? Who's caught he's a disgrace, and who's not he's a great champion, like Cancellara or Van Avermaet for example. Well I don't buy that! Peloton always knows best, and I didn't heard anything but praise for Valverde among his compatriots and more importantly his rivals!

Contador is the current one that has made me cover many kms by car just to se him pass a few seconds. Never spoken to him in person, although family members that live near him have had the oppotunity to do so and we have some very cool personally dedicated posters of his Astaná GT wins in our local bar.

I would love to go to this bar one day! What city is this bar in?

Sorry for my late answer. It is in a very ruinous village of the western part of the province of Toledo without any site of interest to be honest.

Most people migrated during the 60's, 70's and 80's to the big southern suburbial towns of Madrid, including Pinto, where Alberto Contador stems from. In fact, I believe that Contador's family originates from neighbouring Extremadura, having migrated to Madrid in the late 70's.

Cheers

Thanks mate. I have never been to Spain, but one day I hope to venture there!

You are right. I'm not even sure why I spelled it that way. Sometimes, my fingers are way ahead of my brain :D

Well, Chavito it is!

BTW I like his attacking style, his positive attitude and his big smile. Seems like a very nice guy.

I hope you have the opportunity. :)

Spain is such a diverse country also, it's almost like a dozen different countries with vast heritage to visit once you decide to look for different experiences besides the typical overtouristed beach complexes of sun, sex and sangría.

Guess you Belgians are pretty crazy when it comes to cycling, especially the classics.

BTW, yes. You are old!
You must be incredibly young if you think 33 or 34 is old! Pretty sure there are posters here in their 50s and 60s

Sorry. I think I have some of the blame for veering the conversation off in that direction.

Anyway, I just don't understand why you'd dislike, or even hate, riders for any reason.
Personally I just either like a rider, or is simply neutral towards him/her. As for why I like certain riders? Well... I like Samuel Dumoulin for the simple reason that he's shorter than I am. Not the most rational reason...

This place would be much more pleasant if more people had your attitude. :)

Well, I'm 28... but that's still younger than 33 or 34. :D

And I just think that on a forum like this we all have to take responsibility for our shortcomings.
I just like cycling. (Obviously, otherwise I wouldn't post here...)
Well, I've always appreciated your presence here as you always seem to have a good attitude and balance out the negativity and ugliness that often occurs.

LOL yes I've really old, in my youth Anquetil was my favorite :)
