Sustaining poverty doesn't mean the same as creating poverty. And it's not like religion is the only thing sustaining poverty, far from it.

How to get out of poverty? Pretty much the same way how most European countries got out of the poverty in the 19th-20th century. It will be a long process.

They do have the Catholic church however. Wealth was seen as a gift from God, poverty was seen as a punishment of God. Those who were poor were that by their own laziness(according to their logic). Poverty has always been seen as necessary for Christianity. It justifies and (partly) sustained poverty. But the source of poverty is the lack of social rights of employers/citizens.

Isn't it actually a bit outdated to hold commonwealth games? Thank god not every country goes to hold events like that in their former colonies. If the Commonwealth actually worked the UK would've never joined the EU. Just my 2 cents, seems like a useless event. Certainly for cycling.

It also annoys me when the Olympics etc refer to the competing nation as "Great Britain". As this excludes Northern Ireland, and only includes the part of the UK on the main island. The "British Isles" are Ireland, Great Britain, and the channel islands etc. But "Great Britain" is the main island.

I have this problem with work all the time; other nations still refer to Great Britain no matter now many times I point out I actually live in the United Kingdom.

I actually quite like the Commonwealth Games as you usually get to see some good emerging talent, as well as see what other smaller nations can produce when alot of sports aren't being dominated by the US, China or Russia. Although in someways that just means Australia dominate instead.

I could not really give a toss about the commonwealth games but fully understand they are important to small islands like the Isle of Man and Australia.

It would have been fun to watch Kennaugh and Cav take on Oz but DB has spoken

Was nothing to do with DB, he has no say over wether they go or not

I would not have assumed it was, they are all big lads now and know what a CG medal is worth - EXCEPT every article had a quote from DB saying it was nothing to do with him

In the same way that someone from the Netherlands is Dutch, not Netherlandsish

It seems Australia are going to dominate the Comm Games road race, as they did 8 years ago (I can't remember the race in Melbourne).

I know 8 years ago, they sent Stuart O'Grady up the road, then Cadel broke away with not long remaining, and Cooke won the sprint for third.

This time I think the winner (on this flat course) will be Renshaw, or possibly Davis. I'm backing Renshaw because I think he is faster than Davis, so this flat course will suit, and I also think he'll have a point to prove after not being chosen for the worlds. Should be one of those two though, especially now that Henderson isn't there to pose a threat.

It is mischieveous press, after the isle of man newspaper article appeared saying that DB had pulled all the sky riders, Sky press office issued a statement and the isle of man newspaper retracted their article, and because of that statement all following press reports included dave b's statement. I know sky spent a fair while chasing down publications that blamed it on DB and had them correct their stories.

Mark Cavendish has said that he is going to be in New Delhi unless he crashes and injures himself at Geelong. And if he is racing I don't think anybody else can win the race. The course is flat. Wide Roads just a few roundabouts and the heat to worry about. Cavendish if in the race should be a very good bet for the win.
