Hopefully now that he's got that always-tricky first win of the season out of the way the results will start flowing. Still, not exactly a stellar field, I'm sure his form has a long way to come yet if he wants to challenge for the green jersey this summer.

I think it does. Kreder might do something nice here, would definitely be good for a talent like him to have some sucess right out of the gate for Garmin. It's obviously good news for Dutch cycling if foreign teams are taking a serious interest in Dutch prospects, not just the Dutch teams.

Also, nice to see Cav take a win, but in all honesty the level of sprinters here looks horrible. When Hesjedal and Daniel Moreno are top-10 in a peleton sprint, you know something is rotten in the state of Catalonia.

No disrespect to him, but I don't consider JJ to be a top-class sprinter. He has won a buttload of crits in the US and he is clearly fast, but he has done very little in Europe. I think he has one pro-tour win to his credit, and that was at the Tour of Germany three or four years ago.

Today was a day that Cav really had to win, there were no other riders that are close to his level.

Having it so close to MSR means that none of the sprinters are up for it. Cav had to come as he needs miles badly, but the rest will not want to be here right now.

The GC crop was strong before Conta / Wigans dropped out , but it pretty respectible

This is actually not that uncommon for Cataluña if I recall correctly. Last year Hushovd was the ony real top sprinter there and I guess Henderson as well but he was more of a third string sprinter in Columbia so it's not like they focused on sending their best sprinters there.

Cav beat Haedo by half a bike length, so currently their level isn't far apart.

According to VeloNews Cav crushed the opposition-- seems a bit oversold to me? I mean Freire on Saturday, I'd call that crushing, is this in the same league?

yea kreder is showing some nice progress this season. In a couple years he could be a great solid rider.
but i don't think this race is ranked.
