Why do people keep insisting this is wiggos first race of the season..
He won the TTT in qatar, and was 2nd in the TT in Andalucia

You're right, I should've worded that better. It's the first time this season he's racing.

In Qatar and Andalucia he tested himself on one stage and rode the rest for training mileage.

No wonder Wigans did not give Garmin any credit last year and spent the end of the season bagging on them. When you can win a TTT all by yourself, who needs a team.

Dario Pieri is the only guy fat enough to win a 5 man TTT by himself. If only because the officials can't be sure he hasn't eaten the other 4.

Have you seen Bazayev's off-season pictures?

David Zabriskie - current National TT Champ USA - finished 8 minutes down today.

Maybe he was conserving energy for a TT stage win?

Garmin has had a decent Murcia tour so far.

Sorry for the earlier false report...

1. Luke Roberts (Team Milram)
2. Sergey Lagutin (Vacansoleil) m.t.
3. Josep Jufré (Astana) m.t.
4. Denis Menchov (Rabobank) m.t.
5. Andreas Kloden (RadioShack) m.t.

Luke Roberts has had some good early season form. He could be a big surprise this season. Good start to his comeback!

Btw, if Jufre can continue to build upon his form, he and DDLF may turn out to be AC's strongest mountain domestiques at the Tour.

:D
And if i continue my form leading up my form to the tour I might be one of cadel's strongest domestiques. Good ride by him but don't say he's going to be a super strong domestique for Conti!:D

I think this says more about the quality of the BMC domestiques more than anything else.

Qualified opinions are qualified for a reason. :p

OK, rephrase he was part of the winning team in qatar, my point was more that this is his third race. Perhaps just badly phrased.

This races needs better climbs.

+1 What do race organisers have against an MTF? Obviously it causes the race to favour climbing specialists, but there are too few of that type, I think. Maybe something to to with the logistics of organising them.

They would rather have stages end in a town.

I think it has more to do with attracting riders. No big names want one week super tough racing at this time of year, so to attract these names and give them a shot at winning, you have stage races, with bunch finishes and maybe one or 2 decisive stages, whether they be uphill finishes or an ITT.

Agreed.

And I'm not privy to the details, but I suspect that with the economic downturn organizers might not be able to get as much for a town finish as they did before, and so may need more of them now.

If not an MTF, just a mountain stage that isn't likely to end in a sprint. This is just a general moan. It's an anti climax when you're following the hardest stage of a race, and it all comes back together for the finish.

Cadel was fuming when Jufre was allowed to leave Lotto. He obviously didn't threaten to cut their heads off, or well there would be a members of the management who would be headless.

BTW, here is LLS, looks like he is happy not to be racing:
