Lloyd attacks as Porte makes contact, but the other two stay with him. Porte attacks, which does little but leads out an attack for Gerrans. Gerrans sprints away with it

this was better than the CN ticker. where was Sutton?

6th or 7th I think.

Will Clarke was 5th just ahead of the group, Sutton was in the sprint with Von Hoff.

No kidding. The CN live feed sucks big time. Whos that commenting?

Hey, San Diego... my time zone too. I'll say, that was frustrating the last update was with 10 km to go and then by the time the next update comes in there's only 1.2km to go. I knew it was getting close so just stayed tune to the forum. Thanks guys.

Awesome job on the updates guys! It was as if I was watching it.

What happened to Haussler? Did he just go too soon?

Gerrans will at least be fairly visible at the front end of some races this year. He is definitely one of the GreenEdge captains so im sure he will get good support. A deserving winner. Although he is of course overrated.

Yesssssssss!!! Aussie pride ( GE ). I still would not have minded Porte/ Lloyd winning since they are each good riders.
As soon as Sutton cracked i knew Gerrans would win.
The commentary on here was good but so was the SBS ( tv broadcast ) as well.

Points for Lloyd and Porte ( as they are in my CQ team )

Nice animated race.
Durbridge, Bobridge,Porte, Meyer each showed good form for the ITT, Hayman, Hansen, Haussler and O'Grady went into good attacks giving them the chance to win but it did not fall through.

:D

Like Meyer, Haussler had nothing left after being caught. People need to take note of Durbridge's ride, was either in a break or doing work on the front of the pack all day, not bad for probably the youngest guy in the race. Credit to Hayman too for bringing it back together, definitely in the underrated category.

Gerrans and Lloyd looking good for a top10 in the TdU.

Durbridge and Porte favourites for the TT.

Did not go unnoticed.. Massive props to Durbo.. Makes TT v interesting.

Outside of top 3.. Bernie Sulzberger rode a top race.. Just fell off the pace on the last climb.

Haussler blew up chasing Meyer. So when the group all came back together he went out the back.

Oh well at least Haussler has some form and can maybe win something in TDU. I'd say with the hill top finish Gerrans can definitely have a top finish at TDU.

BTW (ok stupid question) Is this Matthew Lloyd we are talking about? Who got dropped by OPL because of having a supposed shady blood test?

Yes, it certainly is.

Didn't they say it wasn't a drug issue that he was dropped for?

Abolutely! In fact they said:-

"Our team's image cannot be connected to Matthew's behaviour any more," the statement read.

"We follow a policy of zero tolerance of which we cannot divert. For the sake of clarity, this has nothing to do with the use of forbidden products. We also want to respect Matthew's privacy."

Then why did they drop him? He's a pretty good rider.

Lots of speculation around "behavioiur" and "mental state" but nothing has emerged publicly as far I have been able to gather.

Probably just did not toe the line - he is a character.

Absolutely, that was a massive ride, this guy will do a lot more than just win TT's post London Olympics. I've read previously that he broke some record set by Cadel at the Mapai centre while still a 19yo riding for Jayco-AIS, cant remember exactly which test, but it was some variation of holding on a AT and he beat Cadel's record by 30s. Too large to be a GT rider but has a big enough motor to win big one day races.

And on Matt Lloyd, from various interviews, his issue with Lotto was refusing to ride races as he felt he was still coming back from injury (and also arguments over his programme) where his team felt he was fit to ride and should do so. His 'unique' personality probably didn't help matters.

Awesome race, nail biting to the end. Gerrans a deserving winner. I would love to know what happened at the top of the climb between CJ and Porte. Last camera shot CJ was almost there. If Porte had been able to drag CJ along with him...

Gerrans should honour the jersey well, will be good to see it in the mix at the Ardennes and stage hunting in the GT's.

Also great to see newer guys like Giacoppo and Von Hoff get in the top 10 as well.
