At kilometre 81, the gap to the two leaders is coming down. Roy and Malori have 3:35.

To initiate some discussion, what do people view Hagen as?

An "All-Rounder"?
A Classics guy who can sprint?
A Sprinter who can ride Classics?

It seems he's used for a variety of roles.

I have no idea.

He could be a Jens Voigt type.
He could be a George Hincapie type.
He could be a Thor Hushovd type.

Blend those 3 guys together in some way and I think you'll get something like what EBH will become.

really similar riders... maybe EBH better in TT, but I see Sagan more potential...

So what you're trying to say is that you have no clue at all? :)

I think I was effectively agreeing with your implication (in an obtuse fashion)..

While both have plenty of time to develop, it feels like right now Sagan leans more toward hills while EBH leans more toward the ITT/Sprints. Both are great all-round guys.

But EBH is three years older and showed great stuff on the road before anyone knew Sagan? How can he be the next Sagan then?

The other way around would make more sense.

Maybe Hagen should focus more on TTing. After very little training on the TT bike 'cause of his fractured ribs from the Scheldeprijs-crash he still got third yesterday. He should go for the TT race at the world champinoship. Better chances there than in the roadrace.

Yeah, but with several of the best TTers missing.

"And in other news"
Wiggins may have a real shot at the overall. I think he would have absolutely won the ITT by a big margin if not for the weather. Brajkovic, I think, could challenge and given the nature of the last two stages (especial stage 6's HC finish), he would seem to be a real threat, but his comments seem to indicate that they not really that up on digging that deep right now. Wiggins looks to be on top form and difficult to beat anyway. :D

I think Hitch intended to imply that Sagan is already better at "EBH stuff" then EBH is despite being younger. A backhanded compliment of sorts.

Thats the joke;)

There is a point to it, in that EBH could evolve into a Sagan type rider, while at the moment he is more of a sprinter.

Anyway as i recall it was said by WonderLance. He added that Sagan is the next Taylor Phinney.

Probably a classics-type, with his good TT and sprint. Don't really see the major classics as races for youngsters though: experience is valuable. He's maybe best suited to classics-y stage races like Eneco or Driedaagse de Panne. Not to say that he's incapable of anything more- I'm just referring to his type.

I couldn't get a feed to work until just now. Best part coming up? :)

Peleton is giving a lesson in demoralizing the hopes of a breakaway.

20 km w/ 2 min gap is now 14 km w/ 1 min gap.

Oh good, about a pages worth of discussion. My work here is done. :D

Now the race is in the last 20km, its up to the sprinter's teams now.

Favourites (according to letour):

Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervélo)
John Degenkolb (HTC-Highroad) Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) Juan José Haedo (Saxo Bank-SunGard) Grega Bole (Lampre-ISD)
Sébastien Chavanel (Europcar) Sébastien Hinault (Ag2r-La Mondiale) William Bonnet (FDJ)

The problem for Brajkovic is that he needs to show well, really well, in order to garner the full support for the tour (unless he's already been guaranteed his place above Horner & Kloden)

That's pretty confusing, but I guess it makes a little sense in some weird way.

Still, the way I see it, Sagan has shown more explosiveness uphill, while EBH has shown a lot more potential in longer TTs. They are similar but definitely not the same type of rider.

I'd certainly play Degenkolb. Farrar hasn't been showing a lot this year and after what happened to his best friend... It seems hard to believe he's in top shape.

Joker is JJ Haedo.
