Yeah, like on the Tourmalet 2010.

Sure, the climb was not a steep one, but the guys were suffering nonetheless. We'll see, but, I'm officially starting to believe he can pull it off, podium at least.

This was not a tough climb. The group of 60 riders with 8 kilometres to go showed that. They could benefit from sitting on wheels. Don't think he'll cope a podium.

Kreuziger, couldn't even follow on this type of mountain.... Tiralongo is now the new captain of Astana i guess

Yes, but since when is Tiralongo capable of doing the things he's doing this Giro?

Good stage. I am really happy that one of those 3 guys won it, even though I would prefer Barta, but Amador was great too, as well as De Marchi.

Feel sorry for Rujano, though :(

Disappointing stage : Rujano can't even get away pff great climber ?? we'll see the coming stages when the climbs are steepers, Basso's tactics are stupid, Kreuziger disappointing as well

Luckily we have Hesjedal who makes it a bit interesting, De Gendt discovering

Uran & Henao confirming

The last 5k were great.

As Rujano ably demonstrated, even the best climber in the world looks like a chump if they shoot their bolt at the wrong moment.

Sadly the infantalised 500KM uphill at 15% fantacists think a stage is rubbish if the attacks haven't started with 20km to go, and ignore the reality that most decent riders will wait for 4km to go.

What a dissapointing stage? embarrasing.

Well, I suppose it took 200kms to set up a great final 5kms.

Some rumblings about Cavendish struggling with the time cut.
Could give El P something to talk about.

I doubt the grupetto misses the cut today. Surely the peloton's speed wasn't higher than expected, right?

Stage played out more or less as expected, none of the favourites suffered significant time loss, only rujano (30 seconds).

Great ride by Amador, crazy decent.

Not really the same as Big Bear was it?

Also De Gendt is really a special one, Im very eager to see what he can do later on.

Indeed. He's for real.
Basso didn't have legs in my opinion.
Scarponi looked very good.

he has been improved since he came to Astana. He just has been the third wheel on the team with VIno, Contador and Kreuziger allways been captains. And he has improved abit in the longest climbs it looks like

I could be wrong about the schedules, but they finished pretty early.

De gendt has the TT to back up the climbing... although I think he will struggle tomorrow when it kicks up.

Syl Smith was very strong in that part of the race. Basso was grimacing badly when holding Szmyd's wheel.

Henao pedaling smoothly! He will be a factor.

Hats off to Hesjedal.

De Gendt has the diesel firing on all cylinders as well.

He was 8th in the 2009 Vuelta, so he's shown some ability like this before, only there he was always the one coming in just behind the heads of state (Valverde, Sánchez, Evans, Gesink, Basso and Mosquera). A couple of years' experience, a new environment giving him more freedom, and the confidence that finally having broken his duck for stage wins has given him...
