Maybe yes, maybe not. Thing is....Sagan started closing the gap right before they turned left. He didn't need to do that. He has the better sprint an a teammate ahead. Waiting a bit more for the events to unfold would make more sense to me. He really looked like he cared only about him self and the win (which is fine, if that was the team strategy for today)

Yeah I agree. Sagan's shown his lack of awareness in sprint finishes before also.

Apart from the Impressive Sagan-- I still cannot believe how well the elder riders in the shack are performing lately- Horner in his 39's & yet going head to head with the young talents.... damn

PS: not clinic comment material at all:D

Cameron Meyer is given as 3rd in the GC at 13 seconds

You got to be kidding me

Yeah what? If he sticks around in the top 10 after tomorrow, I will truly be shocked.

Sagan is a beast, didn't think he could do this yet. He's the new Gilbert alright, chasing his own team-mate down :p

Looking back, he didn't need to. But this is real time decisions. Stop making things up.

Making things up?

Sorry for trying to analyse/discuss the events. Next time I'll just log in, type a sarcastic remark about a rider/team and log out.

Well, wouldn't be the first time Liquigas ****ed up the sprint/finish of the race. What was the stage last year when it was 4 of them and one guy from other team, and Nibali managed to get no bonus seconds, because his teammate beat him in the sprint for third (Sagan won there as well if I'm correct)

Anyway, sorta worried about J-Rod's form. Last year it was the injury, this year he seems to just suck so far

I think you're thinking about that Vuelta stage, where it was 4 Liq guys plus Lastras from Movistar, and Lastras finished 2nd. Sagan won the sprint because somebody had to go - they would look like idiots if they let Lastras take it.

edit - was 2011 Vuelta stage 6

A picture is worth 1000 words:

Yeah, that's the one.

Wasn't Sagan being an idiot there, it was one of the teammates (Agnoli)

Meh, he's practically given up on London already as far as one can tell, only interested in the Points/Madison in Melbourne. He wasn't that far behind on the JTL stage of Haut Var, so this isn't much different. Highly unlikely that he'd be anywhere near the top30 tomorrow though.

Unbelievable by Sagan, first sign that he can live up to his promise of being able to challenge Gilbert.

With climbing, we mean ACTUAL CLIMBS. Not without Lanciano etc.

Captain Hindsight...

Well, I can't find the conversation right now after looking for a few minutes, but I had taken it as 'he won't be there if there's anything hard at the end', which I thought I remembered including relatively short and steep climbs. Apologies if that's not what you meant.

Either way, he surprised and impressed me today, I didn't think he could take it after such distance and with such a hard finale.

I've seen him dropping very fast.

Was to be expected after his bad TTT and bad preparation races.

Ah okay. Didn't know that. Expected him to do Top 10-15 here.

This is true, but in his defense, he just turned 22 a month ago. He hasn't been around that long, and awareness/tactical sense is something acquired over time. What Sagan demonstrated today is that he is physically a beast but could work on his tactics a little bit. He probably would have won the stage either way, but that attack seemed too premeditated. His strategy must have been "I'll attack at XXX meters to go," regardless of the situation. Not sure what role the DS played in this but I agree it was an inopportune moment for an attack with Nibbles on the attack...

What happend to Evans and Scarponi? Normally very consistent at these sort of climbs. I didn't think the pace was very high to drop, weak form I guess.

I'm not shocked.
I kinda like this redneck and I was genuinly dissapointed when he crashed out of the TdF last year. Would've loved to see him fight on the mountains. He only gets better it seems.

Evans rides for BMC and the 3 top riders from BMC fail to make an impression this year.
Scarponi injured his hand 2 days ago. Not sure if it had any impact today though.
