Is there such a thing as "stealing" a race that doesn't have something to do with clinic reasons?
I just figured this is Contador's race. It's a perfect course for him, he has home advantage and it's been his one goal of the season since he got banned.

I think we just have to accept that Froome will be the new Armstrong. Both of them didn't show any results what so ever in GTs before their late breakthrough, they both broke through in the Vuelta, they both almost never got tired during their career, they both obsess with tiny details what some call marginal gains here, etc

I have already settled into this terrible thought. Guy should serious try the historical triple since he is the only one with the connection..sorry...ability needed to pull that one off.

Could've finished with Capecchi and co if you see that final 500m.
They were already too far back when the penultimate climb started. They could never get to the front that way.
Time for Mollema to say goodbye to his GC and work for Gesink.

What is it with Rabo?
They have the rider's LLS Ten Dam etc etc to not get in bad spots all the time.
Menchov till the present it just goes on,isnt bad luck they keep crashing etc
Managment? DS's? Rider's not being leaderish enough??
Come on dutch mafia you in the know

You are from GB or USA or so and can't convert foot to meter? Count it again.

So he had seven 1 k attack on a 5 k climb? When you are good you make an ''Armstrong on Hautacam" one.
I don't know how it will be in 2 weeks, but for now you have to accept that Contador is weak. Not weak, but weak compared with 2007-9 Contador.

Maybe they're not aggressive enough? After all it is at times a battle to stay at the front of the race in good position. Especially in the final of the stage, maybe they are just too nice and let everyone else in?

Gesink has clear bike handling problems, hence the positioning is harder for him.
Question is why he's left alone battling for position when everybody knows it was crucial to be in the front before the climb. Couldn't LTD help him out?

They were back on the penultimate climb as well, constantly in 40th position. I think the guys who usually do the positioning were dropped when Quintana, Sky & Saxo rose the tempo, probably due to the heat.

Cause you would expect Niermann and Garate to be there when the whole day has been quite easy.

No they are just too conservative and afraid. You also always hear the management talking about "not losing time" or "losing as little time as possible" instead of going to the front and trying to WIN time. But that sort of stuff is unknown for them.
Only in races like California etc you sometimes see Rabo going to the front and their leaders attacking. In GT's, they seem to have too much respect for the top 3.. so they will never finish there.

Gesink should start riding cyclocross, that will give him better handling.

They did well on the Arrate stage, but today was just really bad. Everyone knows you should be in the front for a climb like this, yet their leaders are left to fend for themselves.

Maybe Grischa Niermann isn't the right guy for the job.

Gesink isn't such a bad bike handler, contrary to what people think. It's his teammates who did nothing for him today.

He'd crash badly and ruin his road season then :D

They'd have to make him practice on soft ground like sand, although even on sand I wouldn't be too confident that he wouldn't fall and break something :D
