This season, only two cyclists have been able to outsprint Gilbert in an uphill finish; Sagan and Slagter

The only difference is that when Sagan was left to do all the work today in those last few Kms, he didnt mind. He knew they will not help him and therefore he spent most of the time pulling and brought GVA back and took the sprint.
On the other hand, when Cancellara was left to do all the work in 2011 Paris - Roubaix, he got frustrated and was waving his hands and gave up on chasing, therefore he lost the chance to win and JVS took it.
Other than that, they are both awesome, just Cancellara is more of a cry baby and always whine about this and that. Sagan on the other hand is fun to watch

Well, there is a bit difference between pulling for 5 kms or 50 kms, I dont think that one can blame Cancellara in that occasion

1. Cance had to pull for quite a bit longer time
2. Sagan knew he was the best sprinter. Cancecould not beat Hushovd in a sprint

1. Fabian got the engine and he should pull for even 50km
2. Because as you saw last Sunday, you never know and Spartacus can (from time to time) win an one on one sprint.

BTW on the other hand, I completely dislike guys like Cav because he cant win siht if he is not delivered to the final 200m by a teammate or by sucking wheels of others.

I just watched the last 2k again. Absolutely amazing. The guy is an absolue stud on the bike. And Netserk's right, he had been in the front for twice that long. He was on the front, Chava attacked, Sagan chased him down and stayed on the front. Then the GvA attack and he stays on the front, gradually brings him back and rides almost everyone off his wheel in the process. Stays on the front until Gilbert starts his sprint and then comes around. That last 4k or whatever it was should just go under the heading FREAK.

It's not like he's been bad in LBL in recent years either, in fact he's done very well. 4th in 2009, 3rd in 2008, 1st in 2011. And 2012 he just wasn't that good most of the year (being best in WC, and decent at Ardennes).

He was **** in 2012, but he was the strongest in 2010 and 2011. So yeah, he has dominated in LBL in recent years. Add to that that he has won Lombardy in 2009 and 2010, AGR in 2010 and 2011 and FW in 2011.

Nobody thinks Gilbert doesn't stand a chance, people are protesting the thought that LBL is already a done deal.
And no, he wasn't the strongest in 2010. Vinokourov and Kolobnev were clearly stronger, otherwise Valverde, Evans and Gilbert would have caught them. He lost the sprint to Valverde as well. 2011 was the only year he had the legs to win Liège.

Also AGR clearly suits Gilbert more than LBL. And in Lombardy the field is usually a lot weaker due many faded stars (tired from grand tours/long season) and non-starters. So easier to win. Hell even Zaugg won Lombardy

LBL is a much harder, unpredictable and longer race than Amstel or Fleche. It's possible neither Gilbert or Sagan will win. We saw what happened last year. I think it's one of the toughest races to win.

If Valverde worked better with the group then maybe they'd have caught them. Imo Phil was the strongest, but Kolobnev/Vino attacked after the Roche aux Faucons, a tactical place to attack. They also worked perfectly together because Vino offered Kolobnev the thing he most desires.
He definitely had the legs to win that year.
