Exactly, I'm pretty sure TVG would have beaten them, looks like the only potential challenger for Froome at this time...

Lol yea :eek::eek:

Only Contador can even think of challenging Froome, no one else.

I'm really hoping the Tour GC contenders like Contador, Valverde, and Purito have been working entirely on climbing and are ready to unleash multiple attacks across every mountain pass in France. Because there's no way in hell they will beat Froome TTing like they did today. I have a feeling this years edition will be just like last year, Froome takes yellow early, and no one will be able to take it back or even get away from the sky train.

Froome for the win probably, unless Martin isn't feeling too bad. Rohan Dennis to do well also. Looking forward to seeing how Contador's, Valverde's, and Purito's time trials compare to Froomes.

Told you guys.

When people start to expect TVG to become a main contendor for the TDF the world has gone looney

Well there are people who consider themselves sane, who think Gesink is a legitimate GTcontender.. So what would u make of that?

I wonder how a healthy Contador would read it. Probably like Rogers not better. It's absolutely flat opened for all winds terrain which doesn't suit him at all. What was his best long flat TT before?

To win ?
Not this year, sometime in the future, yes.

To podium, well he is with a realistic chance of doing top 5 again, so any slip up could allow him to reach the podium.

Define long and flat. As 'long' as today?

His best would be a win.

It will be interesting to see how AC and the other non-Sky GC contenders perform in the mountains. None of the ITTs are pancake flat so im not sure if Froome can expect this level of dominance in the Tour ITTs. Now if these guys can't hang with and dispatch the Sky-borg in the mountains, all bets are off. We may have a Sky podium at the TdF

How is the 1st TT? on the profile it look flat but would be good if it was technical.

Not technical but not flat

Funny you should say that, as Gesink got 5th in the Tour at age 24... just like Tejay ;)

This. And the emphasis on considered, as in past. I don't consider him a GT contender now. Not since his leg break anyway.

Van Garderen is a different story, I don't see how he could be a legitamte GT contender right now, when all he has shown so far is hanging on as long as he can till he blows and riding decent ITT's (top 10).
To be a real contender he has to have some extra weapon, either a better ITT or better climbing. He has none tho. And all he has won was a very weak ToC field.

poor competition? :O JRod was flying in vuelta 2012!

You consider Purito good competition in an ITT?

Interesting to see how Kwiatkowski performs tomorrow.

Judging by the performance levels in this TT, and his spring rides, I wouldn't be shocked if he becomes a good bet for a top 5 TDF ride on the back of this race.

obviously, I hope he's solid but unspectacular and is given part time use of Velits in the Tour, with the other 7.5 men working on sprints.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's a super prospect for GTs, but I don't think he's ready for a three week race yet.

contador excerpt:
"I'm at the Dauphiné to figure out my state of form and see if the engine needs some adjustments for the Tour"

looking at his tt..he need more than just some adjustment... he needs to ovehaul his engine entirely :D:D

btw froome and porte weren't that stellar either, it's just contador, purito and valverde were rubbish, so their already under form suckness got amplified even more..:p
Purito was not rubbish. That's his level in TT. People are getting fooled by his Vuelta and Giro TTs of last year. But was he that good?
Take that Giro ITT for instance. He lost 2 minutes to Pinotti in 28km. How much did he lose today to him?
And Vuelta ITT had a 10km climb so it's hard to draw conclusions from it.

So how to explain the Vuelta on a limited preparation ?

He won that race more on heart and brain than on legs. He wasn't dominant. He struggled to drop Purito and Valverde the whole race long.

not only was the vuelta itt hilly, it also had plenty of corners in the flat part, what obviously helped the puncheur.

Unbelievable that Navarro wasn't disqualified, his ride today must go into the history books as the best ever recovery in an ITT...He went from 85th at first time check, to 35th on 2nd, to 15th at the finish line!

Thus he gained more than 2 minutes due to cheating, assuming that he'd have been around 85th normally.
