It just depends what Wiggins shows up though, but I do expect Sky to crush as do many I guess.

Kireynka - Cataldo - Uran - Henao - (Porte) - Wiggins train will be unbeatable.

Only person that can stop such train is Contador and he will no be present, Nibs is just not strong enough.
if anything, today showed us that AC can make them derail just as much as Nibali.

One Nibali will not do anything against this train. Nothing at all.

At last, some realism on this thread. The only question mark over a Wiggins victory is that he might not be the same rider as last year, especially as he is into his 30s.

yes as we live in a day and age where riders in their 30s all fall back, check horner in tirreno

Look at Scarponi, Kloden, Menchov, even possibly Evans (will have to wait for the Tour to see if he's really lost it) all over 30 and not likely to be serious contenders in GT's anymore.
Some riders aren't affected by age, some are.

considering Felix the cat won the last 2 vueltas (of Colombia) you are going to have a hard time convincing ryo that riders aren't capable of remaining on peak till 40.

Scarponi was a Giro contender last year. Only Purito an Hesjedal were a bit stronger.

Definately that.
De Stefano even asked him if he could confirm he would come to the Giro by the end of T/A and he replied: it'll take a little longer to decide.. maybe after the Classics :p

But is Scarponi likely to contend for a high placing in the giro again? I'm not sure he is; as I think his best years may be behind him. At best I think he could get top 10.
I'm not saying that when riders get past 30, every one of them all of a sudden can't contend in the big races anymore. Just that some riders performances start to decline (Menchov, Scarponi), and some riders are able to keep going and winning (Rodriguez).

Ryo, I'll address you when you come up with a actual argument.

You may be right, but why stir up now a hornet's nest? His comments could be the product of many discussions with his team, friends and fans. I'm 50/50 here.

It would have been "fail logic" if I had said that Wiggins would definitely decline this year due to age, which I didn't. I said that we are still waiting to see what form he is in and that it is not certain he will be as good as last year, particularly as he's over 30.

Superb racing from Nibali today btw but unfortunately for most on this board it doesn't change the very likely outcome of the Giro:

- Wiggins crushes everyone in the time trials.

- Wiggins sits patiently behind the train in the mountain stages, steadily pushing out the watts. None of the other riders can do anything about it. Posters on here rage impotently and throw out clinic references.

Reading some interviews from Porte after Paris-Nice it appears that he won't be at the Giro after all, so Sky are banking everything on Wiggins.

So I think they line-up:

Wiggins, Henao, Uran, Cataldo, Kiryienka, Lopez, Kennaugh, Pate, Knees

I don't think Dombrowski has passed his audition. He hasn't done badly but I don't think he's quite ready for the task that Sky will be asking of him. Puccio is a possibility instead of Kennaugh based on Tirreno but they probably want to have at least two Brits in there.

Tour squad: Froome, Wiggins, Porte, Thomas, Siutsou, EBH, Stannard, Eisel + one other

Dombrowski crashed on stage 3 and lost 16 minutes, though, so I'm sure the crash affected his performances in Tirreno. That said, I have no idea whether he'll be at the Giro or not.

Fair point. I just think to make the Sky team Dombrowski would need to be showing spectacular form to be selected given that his inexperience must count heavily against him. He still has a few races before the Giro so we'll see how he gets on.

Finally came to their senses... They needed at least one of Henao/Uran/Porte completely fresh for July. Wonder if Wiggins will be able to hold his wheel in July.

 Of course it's an audition. Dombrowski even said himself that the team would see how he did in the pre-Giro races and make a decision based on that.

We're talking about a 21 year old neo-pro who, if selected, would have an important role to play in Wiggins' train (it isn't an easy job even if some of the riders make it seem that way). Sky aren't going to send him to Italy if they don't think he's ready for it.

shall we make a bet that dombrowski will do the giro?

When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed

And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt
Oh ...
