Why? The stage with just Telegraphe is meaningless.

Rest day tomorrow, Monday have a brutal stage with double Finestre-Sestriere loop.
To the maps! Any ideas?

To be honest though, RCS is handling this the wrong way. There has to be some mountain in the Alps they can climb. At this point, they should just find it and shower whoever owns the road there with money and make it happen, because that'll be less costly than what they'll lose in advertisement and reputation by cancelling the stage.

sigh. bad weather again in Italy. Looks like Europe has been getting a bad weather since classic. I wonder if TDF, the weather would be not a sunny as it used to be. Are we going to have a lot of wet descents?:D:D Looks like global warming has changed the weather pattern.

Where's the proof that this has anything to do with global warming? I loathe that word, or the alternative climate change, for explaining away all variations in weather.

It rained 2mm more this year than average. "Global warming." It was 3 degrees warmer than normal in the beginning of April. "Climate change." The whole of March was 5 degrees colder than normal and a cold record in the Netherlands. "Global warming."

Last reports show that global temperature is not willing to follow the upward trend the climate scientists predicted:

There might be global warming due to human interference, but please, stop using it as an excuse for literally everything. Fact is, climate has been changing forever, not only in the last 50 years as we like to think.

Seriously guys, I now it's a bummer but this is getting ridiculous. The organizers can't control the weather. They had alternatives (see today's stage), but there's only so much they can do.

Yeah, it really is a shame that they don't use plains to spray aluminium oxide in the clouds so it rains somewhere else! I mean, what is it with the weather interfering with stuff we want to see on TV?

Why not you go out and fly the helicopter against tower control orders.

Even if you have all the technology in the world, when mother nature unleashes her fury, there is no answer.

15-20 years ago television companies had far less technology available but still coped better with bad weather than they do now. If the heli wasn't allowed to fly they would use a plane instead which would fly at higher altitude using radar, and the analogue signal would be sent to that instead. Picture quality would be fuzzy, but better than nothing. Now we have digital we have nothing instead because the signal isn't as strong and even a little bit of interference destroys the picture.

If they broadcast the pictures from the cameras by analogue they could send them to a plane and we'd have pictures, just like we used to have. If they choose not to do that it's their fault and it's not correct to say that they're blameless; they're just unwilling.

You have live pictures from the finish because they have a TV truck with a satellite dish there, and cameras are connected to the truck via cable.

With motos, its different. Motos relay video feed to helis, and helis relay the feed to a plane which relays the feed to a satellite. Break the chain at any link, and there are is no live video.

What will happen today, is that motos will record the video to some kind of physical media, and once that media gets to the TV truck, and video from all motos get edited together you will have highlights. Probably an hour or so after the race ends.

You will have last 350 meters live though, because its covered by stationary cameras (same ones that are interviewing the fans). I hope i explained it right.

Quoted because this needs to be on every page for the muppets who aren't following.

Climate change leads to increased variability as polar ice melts, ocean currents change, etc. Individual weather events cannot be ascribed to climate change, however the scientific proof is irrefutable.

The rest of it is well funded climate deniers pushing arguments to prevent action so to further the financial interests of their backers.
