Maybe they could have a rest day tomorrow and then try to race the stage on Monday...
But I don't know if thing would get better soon enough

This would be a good solution, might not work out if the weather stays like this. But at least there would be a chance of getting a stage out of this mess.

oy oy the Giro usually have high mountains in May and it often works. You can't expect the Giro to stay below 2000m or something because of chances of snow. Last year they MTF'd the Stelvio, which went great, and which is higher than the Galibier.

Including and the Galibier MTF and the Stelvio kind off sucks though, because of you have bad wheather than too much is lost.

I'd rather have them plan epic mountain stages and be forced to change them sometimes, than not include big epic climbs because there is a risk of snow.

So people should stop compaining about the course design and maybe start complaining about the plan B designs and preperations

Just tuned in, what exactly is going on?

No live coverage, weather making it too dangerous for helicopters to get in the air and can't get coverage from motos cause of weather as well. We'll only have video from the finish line.

Tomorrows stages could be canceled completely.

You have live pictures from the finish because they have a TV truck with a satellite dish there, and cameras are connected to the truck via cable.

With motos, its different. Motos relay video feed to helis, and helis relay the feed to a plane which relays the feed to a satellite. Break the chain at any link, and there are is no live video.

What will happen today, is that motos will record the video to some kind of physical media, and once that media gets to the TV truck, and video from all motos get edited together you will have highlights. Probably an hour or so after the race ends.

You will have last 350 meters live though, because its covered by stationary cameras (same ones that are interviewing the fans). I hope i explained it right.

Thanks, best explanation on the thread definitely

I'm ok with not racing up mountains when it isn't safe, but I can't accept that there can ever be weather that justifies starting the race but not broadcasting any pictures.

Why not you go out and fly the helicopter against tower control orders.

Even if you have all the technology in the world, when mother nature unleashes her fury, there is no answer.

Seriously guys, I now it's a bummer but this is getting ridiculous. The organizers can't control the weather. They had alternatives (see today's stage), but there's only so much they can do.

Several of these types of replies have been posted. I can't tell if they are genuine, taking the p'iss, just ignorant or written by 12 year olds.

Do we know for certain wethher there will be highlights based on images recorded by the motos or not? It seems technically possible if they have set up the cameras to record enough data
