Interesting to see that Battaglin was 19th, that's his first "decent" result in quite some time I think...

He was with the first group on top of the last climb.
I wished he could stay with the best and fight for the win, but yeah nice to see him there.

As it was the opportunity never really presented itself on the technical half of the descent because Hesjedal was drilling it. If it had split there then perhaps Nibali would've contributed.

Nibali has to take every opportunity he can. But, not at the expense of expending too much energy for no gain. Remember Hesjedal has killed himself today for 8 bonus seconds.

Hesjedal went crazy and still finished third. Still his attack made the stage a better one but he expended a lot of energy.

Remember that the first week is traditionally Hesjedal's weakest. Be afraid.

I think the significance of nibbles display is pretty much nothing. People hoping for something were clutching at straws IMO. Paolini got some leeway for a reason. L
