Looks like Sky ****ed up.

That is a pretty big foul up by Sky if it wasn't by design, I can only assume that he chose to hang back to avoid a pile up, and would rather lose a few seconds than break a collarbone?

If he was dropped then where is the communication? With 3 kms to go they had time to bring a few team mates back to carry him forward, at least help him finish alongside the other GC riders.

If it was just through carelessness and a lack of concentration, then where is his head? It's quite out of character, and surely he is experienced enough to know that that was a crappy place to be on a run in like today, you can lose the Giro by throwing away seconds like that.

EDIT: Or, obviously the other possibility is that he didn't have the legs to hang on today, which would be a pretty bad sign for Sky.

That's what it sounds like, assuming "was already behind" means "there was a gap in front of him".

after the clarification on Wiggo's time- I have to say this matter is only going to contribute a lot to the race's spectacle, because now we can see a more aggressive SKY-not playing defensively but rather be forced to attack-and that's when Wiggo "must" show his entire arsenal-not only in the ITT, but in the mountains & most of all during those transition stages where he's shown lack of concentration....

Definitely. And on stage 7 we will find out for sure what his condition is like. To be honest even in his best shape you could see Wiggins losing quite a bit of time on that stage, but in bad shape he will lose any chance of winning the Giro for sure..

you are assuming he is in a very good condition, that is the big question mark right now after today? Maybe just bad luck, maybe his carelessness? maybe he is weak just couldn't pedal through? We just don't know right now. Stage 7 probably will give a clear answer.

I remember Hejsedal got dropped on an uphill finish last year, was very vulnerable and could have been killed off if they wanted to.

Come the dolomites he was as strong as anyone.

Wiggins said a few days ago team numbers show he's better than before the tour last year. While he is hardly someone who has any reservations about lying, it would be pointless in this case to claim to be in the form of your life if you've got nothing.

I think you misunderstand - JRanton started running his mouth about Wiggins looking bad earlier in the stage, when he was climbing right at the front.

He moved to the back after the climb, because he clearly didn't fancy taking the corners quickly after the top. You can make perfectly good cases that that isn't a good thing, but I'm not convinced it tells us a thing about his legs.

Even at 50% Wiggo will be in pink after stage 8. No matter the gap.
After that, Sky will only need to defend, especially if Wiggo is not in shape...
