and actually Machado is the best rider RNT has for this race along with Cancellara but they are so stupid that they don't realize that

The weather is going to make this a real test - not a normal MSR. I'd be much keener on Sagan's chances in good weather. Surely going to see a much smaller peloton than usual. I think Gasparotto will do very well

Hard to look past Sagan for this proven record in this sort of weather, but watch out for Roelandts could be this years gerrans.

Roelandts is a serious threat, although somewhat unproven in Monuments. He seems to have only one serious attack in a classic, but if he can time it in the final 10 kms and stay on the front while Sagan's not around, he's one of the fastest.

Are there any riders who suddenly become favourites because the weather is going to be bad?

Or indeed don't have a hope?

I remember griepel saying earlier in the season that the cold weather sapped his legs prior to a poor sprint?

Or maybe the rain will help people like flecha? or stannard?

I think Sagan is totally fine with crappy weather so your question is meaningless :D

... just kidding ... usually bigger guys do well so Boonen would be my horse for a bad weather

Edit; perhaps Boasson-Hagen

Sagan is very good in poor weather.

But the problem is **** weather makes the race unpredictable. More chances for crashes, confusion or breakaways to make it from 80k.

So as he is the outstanding favorite he would probably be better off in **** weather, even though he himself likes the weather.

call the garmin guys and borrow some gabba jerseys, zip it up and wear it until you cross the line in sanremo :)

Somewhat ironic that Gabriel Rasch who invented that jersey needs to ride in Rapha tomorrow... :)

Excluding the obvious contenders I reckon John Degenkolb could be in with a shout. Be interested how Thomas goes - whether he riders for EBH or has a bit more of a free role.

He might apply the corkscrews on the Poggio- if he still has his Corkscrew form.

Someone asked earlier about dark horses or smokies in the race. My pick at 80/1 is Daryl Impey from OGE. He is racing in excellent form, doing well in sprints and over the bumps and has a great track record in tough conditions. I believe his race directions will be to stick with Matt Goss to the very end if possible. There are plenty of scenarios that could take place and he will automatically take over the Goss role if Gossy is feeling the weather or doesn't have the legs. Goss does really well in the tough conditions as well and his win in a wet and soggy finish at Tirreno was just as noteworthy as the Sagan win.

I still like Gerrans as a big chance but if his lung problem is a bit worse than we think the weather won't help him. OGE may change the plan for Langeveld to take the sit and watch role if Gerrans doesn't come up and leave Impey to protect Goss.

I am definitely getting up early for this one (8am for me as I'm in the middle of Canada). Not only do I always love the lead-in to San Remo as it really reminds me how special the monuments are, even if it's 'boring', but with the weather as horrible as it is, it really adds to the 'anything can happen' element of bike racing. If this were twitter I'd say something like #soexcited to end it off.

Hushovd, if he's anywhere near his old shape. He struggles in very warm weather and performs better than expected in the cold.

TBH, I´d also like a race in rather bad conditions, but if I remind correctly, almost every other year, bad conditions were supposed to take place, and mostly, it wasn´t bad then in the race. Often there were rumours like "snow on Turchino, maybe unable to pass" or so. And it wasn´t half as bad afterwards.
