You got to have followed no cycling in the past 6 months to find this surprising, Mollema beating Contador. What is surprising is that Contador did so well.

Correct, Contador was slightly better than expected.
I think it bodes very well for the 3rd week. Of course Froome operates on a completely different level, but there will be some fireworks nevertheless.

Radioshack have nothing of substance in this year's tour. Realistically, they should send a strong man up front in each of the remaining big stages. That's the only way they can salvage this tour

Salvage? What do they need to salvage? They've already won a stage and held the yellow jersey. And Schleck losing time was expected, and will just open up his opportunities for stage wins.

Agree, copy the Garmin chaos tactic. Why not, they have nothing to lose. Choose one of the stages with TV production from km zero and lets have another day of proper racing.

Some of us expected Schleck, Zubeldia and Kloden to be among the top 15 atleast around this time so as far as expectations go, they are far from it. The trio could breakaway individually on each of the 3 big mountain stages while Voigt and maybe Bakelants/Monfort could target the stage into Lyon and the one into Gap.

They have nothing to lose and nobody will mind them going away so I say go for it. Might just be wishful thinking from my end

“es una barbaridad”.

nicely put by purito. congrats to chris and tony.
now i think too that this tour will be 99% won by froomey. well at least now everybody is forced to attack so at least ventoux and the 3rd week will be full of attacks i hope.

I would choose 1 big stage and go all in FTW.

More effective, better show.

Similar to Garmin's chaos tactic.

No kiddies play anymore.

Why would there be lots of attacks? It is a close battle for second now, so I doubt many riders will take any huge risks. Except for Froome riding off into the distance, I'm not expecting many attacks at Ventoux at all.

I think it is partly true, I heard most of the guys only start training mid/end March and barely make it to decent form just before start of the tour. It would also explain a lot of the crashes as they are simply not used to being a bicycle and need at least 1 week to get used to it.

It can also explain why a lot of them get stomach problems, as the body needs time to get off pizza, beer and ice cream and they only change diet last 1 week prior TDF.

I don't know where you read that, but I would stop going there for any useful information.

Ofcourse, Contador will finish podium for sure, probably even 2nd.

Mollema might do a Vuelta repeat of 4th place if all goes well

Schleck is at 17 right now. I thought he would lose a lot a ground after this TT. But 17 is not bad at all. I do feel 2-3 riders above him will surely lose time. Andy just has to hold tight at the front on the mountain stages. Like he did on stage 9.

Zubeldia has a cracked wrist if I am not wrong. Kloden looks completely out of form. No fire power whatsoever. Only guy that looks in reasonable form is Monfort and maybe Bakelants taking a crack again in a break. Expect Voigt to follow one break in the 3rd week for sure. Wont last but will be in the break for long.

Didier has also said he wants to go in the break in the stage to Lyon.

But tons of riders want that, it's one of the only stages where a breakaway could win

I'm not too sure about the big third week improvement. His TT was pretty ordinary by his standards. At this stage I don't think Contador is a certainty for the podium. Valverde has been the surprise for me although that could change as well. I think the podium is still pretty open especially if Froome and Quintana get aggressive in the next mountain stages.

“To be honest, I'd almost given up hope of the stage win. It was starting to look very disappointing when I saw Chris beat my times at the intermediate check. I nearly started to cry. I couldn't believe it. I was more-or-less sure about the win as I had a good advantage to guys like ‘Chava' and Kwiatkowski who really strong time trial riders so I expected that Froome might get to within 30 seconds or something like that but not beating me at the intermediates.”

Salvage?

Were they trying to win the Tour with one of their riders?

Otherwise they are just fine.
