Agreed. If after such a conversation Froome felt Quintana wasn't contributing enough then just go to the front and ride ... and if Quintana can't match the pace then okay. But the attacks??? Not cool.

This is bike racing. Not an afternoon tea party

Why should Cadel retire just because he can't challenge Tour GC anymore? Can be road captain etc

PS Sep Vanmarcke rode up Alpe d'Huez on the 53 chainring today because he had gear problems

"At the end of the day a rule is a rule and if I’ve been given 20 seconds I’ll have to take that, but if you look at the technicality it was actually Richie Porte who fed from the car not myself. I fed from Richie Porte so maybe that’s something that needs to be taken in consideration," he said.

Dude, you sent Porte to the car and took an illegal feed, just own up to it FFS. Poor Porte the whipping boy.

Do you have a source for that as I'd love to read it, throwing team mate under the bus for 20 seconds!

promising someone to not attack and then attacking is a sad act.

Has Quintana's recollection of the conversation been reported - or are you assuming Froome made 'promises'. perhaps he just asked him to ride to their mutual benefit.

I like your optimism. But with his late buildup to the Giro I was hopeful despite being 36 Cadel would still have solid recovery to push for a Podium at the Tour with his 2011 form.

Cadel himself was saying he felt much better about his Giro Tour double attempt after this years Giro than in 2010. That it seems to have gone pear shaped suggests the body won't do what it once could - even as little as two years ago.

Err, Porte would gladly go under the bus for 20s. He does it daily by working for the Sky team to support Froome's position.

And you have lol? Maybe you heard exactly what was said between them?

Obviously I was not talking about the peloton of this year's Tour. If you have spent much time racing, even at the club level, you would understand that this kind of thing will not win you any friends in the bunch. Do this and you will soon find that guys are strangely uninteresting in riding when you are in the break.

What differentiates a hunger knock from whatever Froome did up there? (crack maybe?) Honest question.

hunger knock means your glycogen levels are almost or entirely depleted, which translates into a massive loss in power output -up to 50%. The body, in order to recover from it, needs food & time to raise those levels back up to a certain point where it can function properly-- IF Froome was experiencing it - he would have lost a massive time to Quintana, passed by the Contador group & perhaps lost the yellow jersey. What we watched, was an "staged state of panic" in which he called for a "gel" & told Porte to knock the pace a notch, just enough to keep Quintana in check while being always "on front" of Contador all the time.... Did you notice those "radio feed backs going back & forth" while he was "bonked"??? just getting the time gaps in check;)

That's what a team-mate is there for. And Porte threw himself under the bus by getting the food. Makes no difference for him whether Froome gets the 20 seconds too or not.

@Ryo, in which language did Froome and Quintana talk to each other?

Like I said more about character, 20 seconds matter little, take responsibility for your own actions/failings.
