hunger knock means your glycogen levels are almost or entirely depleted, which translates into a massive loss in power output -up to 50%. The body, in order to recover from it, needs food & time to raise those levels back up to a certain point where it can function properly-- IF Froome was experiencing it - he would have lost a massive time to Quintana, passed by the Contador group & perhaps lost the yellow jersey. What we watched, was an "staged state of panic" in which he called for a "gel" & told Porte to knock the pace a notch, just enough to keep Quintana in check while being always "on front" of Contador all the time.... Did you notice those "radio feed backs going back & forth" while he was "bonked"??? just getting the time gaps in check;)

i think the back and forth in the radio was race officials arguing with sky about the illegal feed (dont have a source, but that was the rumor)...imo i think that gel made the difference, i think he was bonking badly, w/o that gel he would have given more than the time he gave up today.

That Gel must be "unique" in its kind to make a "bonked" athlete recovered in such short period of time to keep him in contention while neither losing massive power nor allowing his nearest rival to gain time during a 7.6% average climb, on the 3rd week or racing.......

good try;)

It's not the gel what's unique, it's Froome's insulin spike.

it depends...probably he panicked. to me honestly, froome looked scared because purito and quintana dropped him.probably couldn't figured out how the hell that happened so he might have just said..jeez i'm dropped by some other riders....surely i'm bonking:D...anyway bonking can be this way too ...at pro level i guess...they still have some energy left...

at amateur level..it's hell...let's just take the case of an absolute idiot who didn't train for a long time but being over confident he tries to beat his record time on the climb...this idiot didn't even take enough water and no gels/bars for the massive effort in 45 degrees heat, exposed to the sun climb....the idiot doesn't even realize that getting suddenly chill felling even that it's 40 degrees temperature might be a bad sign...nope, keep motoring..of course disaster strikes...hypoglycemic shock combined with dehydration, mouth, hand numbness close to coma i guess...
the idiot would say never underestimate the bonk. damn the idiot regrets not having a richie porte along his side

Does anyone know what the slowest time up Alpe d'huez was today? I wnat to know if i've beaten it (probably not though):D

Must be impossible since the pros will always be far below 60 minutes, but of course you didn't have a bunch of drunk people pushing you to the top. ;)

FWIW, I thought he didn't look at all like the guy that tore up Ax3 before the two climbers attacked. They were getting gaps before the attack, so they had a clue it would stick.

The way Sky did that climb was easily the strangest thing I've seen in a long time. The bottom was kooky, then the whole panic thing. Strange.

"At the end of the day a rule is a rule and if I’ve been given 20 seconds I’ll have to take that, but if you look at the technicality it was actually Richie Porte who fed from the car not myself. I fed from Richie Porte so maybe that’s something that needs to be taken in consideration," he said.

Dude, you sent Porte to the car and took an illegal feed, just own up to it FFS. Poor Porte the whipping boy.

The 20 seconds is inconsequential.

What Froome's actions have done is absolutely destroy the "we're Sky, we're British and we'll never cheat, it's not in our nature" myth.

Not only does he knowingly and willingly cheat while wearing the yellow jersey, absolutely disrespecting the MJ, p*ssing on it.

He cheats while the race officials are telling him and his team on the radio that it would be an illegal feed.

The yellow jersey wearer decides to cheat, but sends Porte, thinking that he can use this technicality, while being watched by millions.

After the stage, out of the heat of competition and after deliberation , he doubles down on the bullsh*t technicality and suggests it was only Porte that cheated.

He takes the fans for fools.

He absolutely confirms that for him and for Sky, rules are mere technicalities and are there to be skirted.

What other rules does he think are not worth respecting?

His true nature revealed : Disgusting cheat.

I have this information from first hand.

Did Quintana ever acknowledge and agree to work with Froome? If so pretty weak on Froome. However if Froome drops back to beg and just gets the stoneface, really anything goes at that point.

Quintana looks fantastic. Hard to believe he won't keep taking time the last two stages, leaving the entire race decided by the TTs.

Please tell me you're joking?

It's an arbitrary rule that's all about making sure there's no team cars around at the end of the stage, to keep everyone safe, and stop anyone pacing behind anything, and nothing whatsoever to do with preventing anyone from eating/drinking and 'cheating' and 'illegal feeds'.

All kinds of fines are handed out every day for hanging on to cars for too long, riding between cars too much after a mechanical, and so on. Everyone pays up and takes the penalty. No biggie.

No one wants to see anyone collapse on the bike, hence the rule was relaxed on the Ventoux stage because of the heat. Was everyone cheating then?
