Sad news with the replacement of Renshaw in the Belkin squad. I was betting on Renshaw after his impressive return to form in Eneco tour. :(

One man's replacement created a cascade of 3 changes for the team, and now dont really have a gauranteed top-10 sprinter now.

No need to have a sprinter. There aren't many sprint stages in the Vuelta.

Ah, but with the low-quality field of sprinters, your in for some good points if you pick the right sprinter. That is, the one that can do a degenkolb-like performance. I hope I picked right.

There are 7 stages where sprinters can earn points. And, all we need is a sprinter who can earn some points in all the 7 sprints, plus probably one or two stage wins. Points from the point classification will also come. At least, that is my logic for a sprinter. If the choice is correctly made @100 pts min, and upto 500 pts if the choice is good.

Also, there are only a few sprinters that come cheap. Degenkolb was costly. Degenkolb earned just 400 pts, and his cost was 700+ last year.

are the top-3 most common choices due to the cq cost or due to the riders capabilities?
Basso is the only rider costing 300+ points in the most popular set. 19+teams

Originality
Lower score is more original: 9 unique picks would give a score of 9, everyone who picked Vanendert gets 21 points for him etc.

Jelle Vanendert is the most popular pick???

4 Unique picks: CQ Manager
3 unique picks: Jakob747, Keith James Mc, Murali, Vladimir
2 unique picks: Al Pacino, Geraint Too Fast, Lightbing, Maaaaaaaarten
1 unique pick: Blues in the Bottle, Hilltop Finisher, Jancouver, Jpettersen, Leadbelly, MC Mountain, Mkind07, Mutschi, The Asian

23 of us have no unique picks

We can't do a simple "collective wisdom" team: the top nine picks have a total price of 5909. If we leave in only the most popular of the 1000+ priced riders (Betancur, 16 picks) and take out Henao (13 picks) and Nibali (11 picks), we have 7 riders for 2523 points. To fill the roster of 9 riders we then take the next most popular (Brajovic, 9 picks) and one of the three riders who had 8 picks. Given that we collectively can afford the most expensive of those three, it would seem churlish not to do so, so we'll opt for Sam Sánchez over Majka and Horner, and we have a collective wisdom team that cost 3425 points (and scores 134 on the originality index).

All of us bar Jancouver have a vested interest in the Collective team (and he would have done if Nibali wasn't priced out)

Afrank, Cyivel, Mellow Velo and Minessa have most members of that team, with 6 each; Geraint Too Fast, Jakob747, Murali, Search, Vladimir only have one of them.

Betancur: several already named, and also Oliveira (+ Uran), Mellow Velo, Batchuba, Jpettersen, The Hitch, Yellow Knight, DB Coop, Mkind07, Zlev 11, Mutschi
Uran: a couple already mentioned, + Comodoro
No real leader: Gotland, Keith James Mc, Pentacycle MC Mountain

Surprised me too, I just took him cause the combination of him and Mondory put me closer to the limit then taking Van Rensburg and some lower cost guy. I'm not expecting much from him though.

And only one other person with Cardoso! Hopefully Libertine is right about him.

Anybody up for an avatar bet?

Offering two bets again.

1. Collective Wisdom vs Jancouver
2. Jancouver to finish in the upper half

Kicking myself for not including Roche in my team. And to think that I had chucked him and Uran from the list to include Henao... :(

a damn good win by roche.

Stage 2
Hopes punctured for all those who chose Henao or Betancur as the main purchase. Popular bargains such as Sam Sánchez, Vanendert and Anacona also seem unlikely to give a high return.

Search had three of the first four finishers today, to earn 110 points and the daily title. MC Mountain is the only other one to pick Roche.

Could Nibali be about to get 19 successive 18 point bonuses for the red jersey?

betancur was sick. he might go for stage wins in the last week.

henao is only 2:49 down. if he maintains the gap, he can still finish i podium.
