Evans too strong here, but the rest of the podium is up for grabs. And what about Meintjes? His next race is LBL. He might beat the other "African", Froome there.

Lol classic Ryo. Let me remind you of your post I quoted:

Did quite well in 2007 there as well.

So is Galibier a low mountain?

it has always been his weak point. see alpe dhuez and other examples(giro 2002) he rode on strong galibier in the tour he won. which anyone with eye sknows that was his best day of his career. I mean boogerd has been a top 3 contender in massprintys, that doesn't make his sprinting any less a weak point of his

Alpe d'Huez  Yeah that's high altitude.

Was Galibier lower in 2007?

This is the kind of terrain (and races) Evans still is good at. How longer and tougher the climbs, the more he will suffer of course.

You do realise people were saying exactly these types of things about Evans prior to the 2011 TDF? In fact they were posting such comments right through that Tour thinking Evans would crack - it was only a matter of when.

Evans has had a quiet season - just like old man Horner in 2013. Still not sure how Evans will go at the Giro. That may be a bridge too far. But I am more hopeful today than I was on Tuesday.

I'm talking about the development of Evans as a rider. Evans gets weaker on the longer climbs with the years. Especially with producing sustaining efforts he's having more difficulties at the moment. Evans back in 2008 till 2010? I say yes, he's a guy who could win the Giro, because he's good at everything (TT, short steep climbs and long climbs). The Evans nowadays? No, because he loses to much time, because he isn't of the level of the absolute best anymore.

I'm not talking about how he was on longer climbs in his prime ages, because he was just really good on that.

Theres a severe lack of Machado hyping yes.

I don't want to hype yet, but what about Cadel? I know this isn't the strongest field, but he sure seems strong right now. I really hope he continues to improve even more and carries this into the Giro....would make things alot more interesting.

Was 2011 in his prime ages? There are valid reasons other than age to explain Evans troubles in 2012 and 2013. Let me remind you Chris Horner was nearly 42 when he won the Vuelta. There are exceptions.

Pozzovivo should crush Evans tomorrow, if he's patient enough.

If Pozzovivo is strong enough to "crush" Evans tomorrow he wouldn't have been gapped today - even if it was only 3 seconds. Watching the video of yesterdays longer climb Evans looked very comfortable to me.

3 seconds could be a 100mt sprint considering how bad is Pozzovivo when it comes to sprinting.

(I haven't watched the highlights so I'm just guessing)

Gotta love a guy who can put out 300 watts and it be 6.0w/kg. :D

There seems to be a romantic love on here of little Italian or Latin climbers. Like David and Goliath (not that Cadel is big). But I remember I was like that too in Pantani's days cheering him on against goliath Jan Ullrich in `98 and after following Big Mig's demolition of little climbers in the early 90s. I think it is natural to cheer for the little guy - an underdog thing.

Theres also that thing where climbing should be a little/skinny guys world. There was a time where size didn't matter so much and we all know why that was. I like cycling (clean) because no one is the best at everything. Everyone has their specialties.

Also this isn't a comment on Cadel because he's a pretty small fellow too. Just not Pozzo small.
