Did quite well in 2007 there as well.
So is Galibier a low mountain?
BigMac said:Do you mean I am hyping him or that there isn't really enough Machado hype around here?
Alpe d'HuezRyo Hazuki said:it has always been his weak point. see alpe dhuez and other examples(giro 2002) he rode on strong galibier in the tour he won. which anyone with eye sknows that was his best day of his career. I mean boogerd has been a top 3 contender in massprintys, that doesn't make his sprinting any less a weak point of his

Cookster15 said:You do realise people were saying exactly these types of things about Evans prior to the 2011 TDF? In fact they were posting such comments right through that Tour thinking Evans would crack - it was only a matter of when.
Evans has had a quiet season - just like old man Horner in 2013. Still not sure how Evans will go at the Giro. That may be a bridge too far. But I am more hopeful today than I was on Tuesday.
classicomano said:Theres a severe lack of Machado hyping yes.
Arredondo said:I'm talking about the development of Evans as a rider. Evans gets weaker on the longer climbs with the years. Especially with producing sustaining efforts he's having more difficulties at the moment. Evans back in 2008 till 2010? I say yes, he's a guy who could win the Giro, because he's good at everything (TT, short steep climbs and long climbs). The Evans nowadays? No, because he loses to much time, because he isn't of the level of the absolute best anymore.
I'm not talking about how he was on longer climbs in his prime ages, because he was just really good on that.

Let's hope he's not as 'patient' as Purito and waits until the last km to attackPentacycle said:Pozzovivo should crush Evans tomorrow, if he's patient enough.

Cookster15 said:If Pozzovivo is strong enough to "crush" Evans tomorrow he wouldn't have been gapped today - even if it was only 3 seconds. Watching the video of yesterdays longer climb Evans looked very comfortable to me.

But I remember I was like that too in Pantani's days cheering him on against goliath Jan Ullrich in `98 and after following Big Mig's demolition of little climbers in the early 90s. I think it is natural to cheer for the little guy - an underdog thing.
