Final kms

Technical overview:
The second longest stage of the Giro, with its 249 km, and a very interesting one as well. Starting from Collecchio, the peloton will climb Passo Cento Croci in order to get to the Ligurian coast, then it will pay an homage to Eshnar by passing through Genova, where most likely it will freeze the traffic of the few most important roads of the city, provoking many colorful expressions among the notoriously cheerful residents. After this necessary checkpoint, the peloton will head towards Savona, but just before downtown the riders will turn to the north, in order to climb the difficulty of the day: the climb to Naso Di Gatto, with 6.5 km at 9%, is really a good spot for attacks, even by GC riders. The drawback is that its descent is technical only in the first half, while the second half is very fast though wide roads. After the descent back in Savona, only 4 km of wide and straight roads.

What to expect:
Tomorrow there's the ITT so that's a bit of a problem. I think the breakaway will take it, and depending on the GC situation we could see some attacks.

Props to Eshnar for the preview.

Except it's no longer the longest stage. Since the stage to Montecassino took 10km more due to a detour, it was 257km instead of 247km, making it the longest stage instead of this one :D

Might be wishful thinkinkg but it looks perfect for Moser on paper. Similar to Laigueglia.

I like the stage.

Action could be good even if the TT is just after.

Hell I think Evans and Morabito should put everybody under pressure on the climb and weaker souls might drop time on the descent.

First proper hilly stage, sure swapping stage 10 and 11 would have been ideal, but you can't get everything in life.

A power break could emerge on the first climb involving some of these riders (GC):
25 MOUREY Francis FRA FDJ 42:58:39 7:52
26 PANTANO GOMEZ Jarlinson COL COL 42:58:47 8:00
27 MALACARNE Davide ITA EUC 42:58:59 8:12

41 CARDOSO Andre Fernando S POR GRS 43:08:54 18:07
42 MONTAGUTI Matteo ITA ALM 43:12:53 22:06

46 CATALDO Dario ITA SKY 43:14:46 23:59

There is a opportunity to get significant time back, much more than what these riders will lose in the TT imo.

Could be interesting in light of the coming tt. Tiring and potentially nervous at the end.

either the Breakaway makes it to the finish line or Bouhanni could well get a second stage win in a row.....

Edit: I just noticed the last climb is 6.5 k @ 9 % - then it must be a breakaway that takes it , unless some GC rider bothers pushing the pace to capture them within the last K's

I like this stage design - think this has good potential.

Break FTW - Pirazzi......

Hopefully some GC behind!

He was down today. They did not show the crash but he looked injured.

A stage for Duarte.

However, i think he still thinks he's at 3 minutes at GC.

So for me Landa or Arredondo

I tend to agree. A Team Colombia rider FTW.

I predicted Weening or Rubiano to win stage 9.

This time I'm going to predict Rubiano or Pantano to win. If it's Rubiano it'll be from the proper breakaway, if it's Panatno it'll be from a late attack.

More like 10 minutes unfortunately.
