Cadel is currently 2nd favourite to win the Giro on betfair.

There are some very very stupid people backing him.

Other than Quintana and Uran, who do you put above Evans right now? By my reckoning at this point in the race he's at least good for a podium and that does not make his backers 'very very stupid' - particularly if you take an each way bet (win or place). Evans is obviously stronger than 2013. After the TT we know more but yes 2/1 for the win does seem a bit short to me I'll agree on that much.

Indeed, I also only see Uran and Quintana as a threat to him. At most, he should finish at 3rd. Still, don't forget there's a lot of stages left, and what happened to some riders today can also happen to Evans.

The betfair market is not an each way market.

There are people backing him to win at 2-1. They are stupid.

You could stick a fork in him 2 years ago. Right now he's just smoldering ashes.

Here's where the gc guys stand in relation to each other:

2 Cadel Evans 0:00:21
3 Rigoberto Uran Uran 0:01:18
4 Rafal Majka 0:01:25
7 Ivan Santaromita 0:01:47
10 Ivan Basso 0:02:06
11 Nairo Alexander Quintana Rojas 0:02:08
12 Wilco Kelderman 0:02:11
14 Domenico Pozzovivo
16 Robert Kiserlovski 0:02:24
17 Michele Scarponi 0:02:28

Two years ago he was sick - as he was last year. He is not now. He has recently indicated he is unsure if the virus might return in the last week. If it doesn't he will do much better than your original comment would suggest.

Say what you like, experience certainly means you get your excuses in early.

I'm not sure I'd have Sebastian Henao on that list.

Lets do not forget all GC riders but Cadel were kissing the ground today. None of us knows how bad it was for each of them.
Atacks probably will not be so hard as if this would have not happened.

Now it's official

Purito broke 2 ribs and a thumb.

Vicioso a threefold complex femur fracture. That looks end of his career:(

Caruso no broken bones, but big contusions on left hip and leg

Ya, follow the link. I pulled that list from the CN link. Not saying I think all of the named riders are "contenders." :) Still thought it was a good list though that showed the differences.

Yes, it's a good list and shows the lack of quality amongst GC contenders if Quintana fails for some reason. Maybe Carlton Kirby has a job at CN and has got Sebastian and Sergio mixed up again.

I saw Kruijswijk lost 15min today :(

I had great hopes of him regaining his old form after his surgery and pulling a top 10 this Giro. The parcours was perfect for him, being super backloaded. But it's over for him unless he finds his L'Aquila.....

So Sebastian Henao is a GC guy and Fabio Aru isn't?

You know he crashed today?

So, in reality, what we have left of the gc guys stand in relation to each other is:

2 Cadel Evans 0:00:21
3 Rigoberto Uran Uran 0:01:18
4 Rafal Majka 0:01:25*
11 Nairo Alexander Quintana Rojas 0:02:08
14 Domenico Pozzovivo 0:02:11
16 Robert Kiserlovski 0:02:24
17 Michele Scarponi 0:02:28*
39 Ryder Hesjedal 0:04:39
80 Nicolas Roche 0:15:55

* Denotes possible DNS tomorrow. (from what we know)

Doesn't make for extensive reading.

Frighteningly feeble.

I'd take out Hesjedal and replace him with Aru.

Prediction: Majka and Kelderman in the final podium with Evans.
