If Uran is one of Contador's two biggest threats now, he'll be celebrating tonight.

contador has to look out for himself to see his form not decline. we will see at the end

what?! contador was only better than quintana t tirreno where quintana was not in form at all. did you see first timecheck? quintana was behind 33 seconds and came through at 20 seconds. that's how much a diesel quintana is, he's better than contador but this crash couldn't come at a worse time.

He is better than Contador? HAHA you are joking right, you even seen this Vuelta you laughing at Froome, Froome blew Quintana to bits before his crash on the La Zubia climb.

Come on, barring accidents, of course the Vuelta is Contador's now. Froome hasn't got it, Quintana was the only one who perhaps could have matched Contador in the mountains, but he would have lost a minute today anyway.

yup. If it were the other way around and Valv was in the lead with froome at Uran's time and Contador at something like Rodriguez's time, it might be uncertain and fun (like in the Tour if Froome and Conti had not crashed out). But I can't help but feel the cards have been shuffled and the deck is sorted the way it's supposed to be (bar quintana moving up to top 5 if he isn't too hurt and consistently climbs the way he's supposed to). Valv and J-Rod and Froome will fight out for the podium, Uran will bleed bits of time but be in the mix as well, Anacona will slide down here and there as seems inevitable for a guy who's reached such heights because he was given a few minutes, and some other guys currently in the top 20 will form the top 10.

Do what??? Quintana is one of the most talented riders in the world, but to claim he is already superior to Contador is a bit of a stretch. Bertie has 7-8 (depending if you count 2010 Tour) on his résumé.

Contador will take this without any problems if he stays healthy.

I believe he will take it but there could easily be problems. I'm not even thinking about his leg necessarily - His team could be a big weak spot. If a team like Moviestar is smart they can still use the strength and depth of their team to turn things their way. AC will have to be very alert for the next 11 days.

Contador's team sucks, if Movistar launch an attack with Valverde and Quintana on stage 16 they could easily beat Contador (see 2014 Dauphiné)

Still a long way to go, but it is Contador's to lose. I doubt he will lose, but lots can happen still. And his team isn't the same as his tdf team. And no one really knows about his health going forward including him. But he has the heart of a champion more than anyone else who is a contender and I wouldn't bet against him.

Not so sure his leg was so bad from the beginning. I am no doctor but I have a hard time seeing him riding so soon after his crash and now riding like crazy if the injury was really serious. I think he will be fine, leg wise.

I mean, a friend of mine had a fracture in his arm and had to use some sort of splint for like 4-5 weeks.

It was a small vertical fracture in the center of the tibial plateau, 15 days off the bike :)

whatever the truth of the matter... those transponder timings are not exactly dead on. The rest of Quintana's performance was very strong though but I think the route of this Vuelta would generally favour Contador if they are matching form (which appeared to be the case)

I doubt Movistar can do better than 2013 TdF stage 9.

Who's to say Uran won't decline? Its hard to peak twice in a year (Giro,Vuelta) like Uran hopes to. Look at Nibali last Vuelta.

Oh I'm not saying uran won't decline either.

AC is 8th in CQ between purito and quintana.

Is winning a vuelta that prestigious? Mean mean Horner did it last year and barely got signed to a WT team after.

He had a superb spring. 8th on the CQ ranking and 2nd on WT ranking without having finished a GT. Sure the TDF was a disappointment but to say his season was bad....

so evans is currently a better rider than purito because he's world champion and tour winner?
