Horner is the exception to the rule. 1 out of many, many, many riders who haven't seen a downturn as they progress in age. Usually either clinic fodder, or a late start without the amount of GTs early in their career.

Evans has been riding 1-2 GTs a year for roughly 15 years now. Horner hasn't. In that regard, a rider like Horner or the French rider who finished 2nd to Nibali in the Tour is not going to see their skills deteriorate at the same rate as a normal rider, who in this era starts to see a decrease around 35 years old.

On Horner, there is a thread for him in the clinic which better sums up my thoughts on his performances since leaving Lotto. This exception to the rule myth keeps being repeated but doesn't wash.

On Evans - his first GT was 2002 Giro - 12 years ago - not 15.

Anyhow, that was the best TT I've seen from Cadel for some time. Good sign for the worlds I think.

He went off at a pace that he was able to do when he was in top shape (ie near Tony Martin performance shape) unfortunately he is nowhere near that level of form so he quickly paid for his efforts.

Yes I am for real. I don't think he'll do it myself. But I don't think it's a given that AC is in tip top form for two weeks.

I hope there is life left in this Vuelta yet.

As expected Froome loses time. I don't know why people thought he would somehow win the tt today or something. Its the race of truth and Froome is no tt specialist. He won tts back when he was destroying everyone at everything. He won tts because he had so much more power than everyone else.

Same as Contador. Same with Evans and plenty of other gt specialists who did well in tts. When you see the mountain form isnt there the tt form wont be there either.

Contador is merely on slightly better form than Froome right now so he will perform better in tts and perform better in mountains. Contador isn't top form either though because if he was he would have taken time on Sunday and come very close to Martin today.
