Welcome to road cycling, the only sport where a mentally retarted spectator can take down half the competitors
Happened on stage 2 as well.

There should be some penalties for these kind of insane spectators. It's a negligent assault.

Chapeau to the Gorilla!

Let's hope that Bertie is not badly hurt, and that the idiot with the huge lens is identified and punished. Best wishes to those more seriously injured.

Contador looked perfectly fine. Watching the replays, he'd slowed down pretty much to a standstill, but couldn't quite get a gap and went down at about 5 mph. Colli's arm though? Not so much

Take all that back after seeing the podium...

I am not 100% sure it was ONLY the camera causing the fall, but I have to see the replay.
I guess it had already something to do with Ruffoni's move causing Colli to move to the barrier, and hitting whatever was in his way (spectators and possibly the camera at the same time)

Also, if you see how fast colli went towards the barriers, the cameraman is not 100% to blame. He was not very cautious maybe, but it's a bit harsh to put all the blame on him. There have been much worse incidents with spectators than this.

Well, let's hope there'll still be a nice fight between Aru and Porte...

Hopefully Contador can be back for the TDF at least.

I was thinking it in the last 3km. Why the hell can't they fix the timing of GC at the 3km? What's the point?

Like seriously what's the point? His giro is over.

In one of the replays it looked like a camera with a big Canon lense (their high end lenses are white) in the air after the crash.

Greipel is a level above the rest and is definetely part of the Big 3. But he can not position himself. He needs a supremely clever lead out man. However the only 1 I can think of. Leads out Cavendish

Why trying to be at the front when everything was just flat!!!

There was not even a bump at the end so these GC riders should just keep behind and just roll in.

I hate when a GT loses any GT contenders. Not even the challengers like it.

Gaps still can be made in the last km, you don't wanna lose any sec.

Just fix at 3km, it's really that simple.

Even if he continues this should affect him to some extent for sure. And tomorow 265 km

Oh god.

Because you are only given the time of the winner if you lose time by accident (puncture/crash) inside the last 3k

I thought the rule for these stages was 3 kms?

No. If you crash inside the last 3km you get the time of the group you were in.

But if you lose the wheel in front of you, you get the time you cross the line. So you can't just give up at 3k, you have to keep going.

I rewatched the crash. There was just not enough space for Colli.
The gap was too tight and the barriers were approx. 30cms more narrow at the location of the crash.

So camera or no camera, Colli took the risk to pass the Bardiani guy (Ruffoni) at a point were he better had hit the brakes instead of trying to pass in a narrow gap.
