Sorry Cipo! ... but dont worry, you will always be near my heart!

So that's who it is. I thought it was some hockey player from the '50s.

He's just missing a cobbled Monument to become a proper Flandrien.

Anybody but Sky Riders.

God forbid that to happen.

Will be ridiculous.

Brailsford boasted that his goal was to dominate the sport. So I'm all for them not winning anything else although I do like Henao and am happy about his return to form. Nausea is my reaction when Sky is showing any signs of dominating.

Brailsford actually said "by the time we get to 2020 we would like to be considered indisputably the best and most consistent cycling team in the world". Domination is actually secondary to being the best and most consistent. It's what cycling needs - consistency from sponsor, through the team and down to the riders in each and every race rather than the sponsor-led highs and low of say a CSC/Saxo/Tinkoff inconsistency driven by sponsors and not long term team ethics and goals.

Isn't every teams goal in nearly any sport in the world to become the very best in the world and to win as much as you can? If your not ambitious there is no point, what sponsor is going to be happy with making up the numbers and mediocre results for years? Simple common sense really...

Of course, but no team is consistent across the season in multiple race types - this is Brailsford's point. Consistency comes from a sponsor with an equally long-term 10 year plan to the teams, where staff and riders that know it will exist next year, the year after etc etc and have that long term goal to aim for. If you think the rollercoaster of short-term 1-2 year sponsoship riding and chasing we currently see Lefevre, Riis/Tinkov, Vaughters constantly wobbling on is the best way, then we'll have to disagree.

I agree with you, my point was in reference to those who have a problem with a team showing ambition and foolishly mistaking this for arrogance.

I wonder what the hell happened to Vansummeren, he has been anonymous these last few years. I know he had some luck to win that Roubaix but he used to be a decent rider, now he's just off the grid

It isn't so much the aspiration, which others share, it is the way in which they set about achieving it, and the manner in which they articulate their 'vision' for the sport and the team which makes my blood run cold.

The trouble with a sports science 'narrative' is that seems to overwhelm the individual, human element. For me, P-R is perhaps more about that than the GTs, because (esp. when the weather's bad) it's such a blood 'n' guts kind of ride. So maybe in this race more than any other, I don't want 'professionalism' and 'science' to be seen to win. I want it to not be quite enough - to take a back seat to sheer courage, brute strength, guile and an unsurpassed willingness to suffer like a dog to win.

I don't think, that kristoff will win this race. Guys like vanmarcke, boom or stybar are probably better on the cobble sections and the great win last sunday makes kristoff such a big favorite that everyone will try to attack him.

If Kristoff is using 25 mm tires this race on his Aeroad he has no chance.
Is there something that leads you to think he is?

I don't think the Aerooad can handle 28 mm, and I've seen photos on CyclingNews of him previewing the cobbles on the Aerooad. That may work for Flanders (a victory for aero bikes) but certainly not here.

Caley Fretz @CaleyFretz
All but two Katusha riders using Canyon's aero road bike, the Aeroad CF SLX. Same as Flanders. It has clearance for 28s.

Curious to see what Malori can do in his first Pais - Roubaix, the guy has a huge engine. Yes, he wasn't good in E3 and Dwars, but he's a pretty bad climber and not the most explosive guy, so P-R should suit him better.

The Wiggins hype has reached stratospheric levels. The sooner he's out of the race tomorrow, the better.
