Martin said today that he was totally out of energy yesterday, just like Talansky. That is something that could happen after a rest-day. Probably the whole team did not use the rest-day well.

Thanks for the info. It seemed like more than a few teams had a shocker on that climb. I hope Martin takes the stage.

When I saw Martin in the break, I thought it was an Eire-'Berian alliance, but the wind blew that plan off course, being at his back over the last climb.

It's a shame that a mountain like Tourmalet is used on a stage like this where there will be absolutely no action :(

We all know the point of the stage was to include the famous climbs and hope for a French stage win.

However, if yesterday had gone to the expected script then today might have seen long range and downhill attacks on the up and down of the Tourmalet. It's also going to add to the softening up of legs over time. There are too many classic climbs in the TdF so it's inevitable 1 or 2 will be used in the middle of stages every year.

Bardet with a heatstroke? I feel sorry for him.

Poor guy, I know how he feels - as an Irish person I'm completely acclimatised to cold and damp - my favourite cycling temperature is between about 5 and 10 degrees - cool enough to not sweat much, but not cold enough to think about long sleeves or leggings.

I went up Mount Diablo once when it was over 30 degrees and I was a complete mess - when I got back down I looked at my jersey and shorts and there were visible salt crystal patterns all over them.

I don't think that this stage was ever gonna induce any action. Not with the final climb as easy as it is and the stage tomorrow.

The route designers might have thought this to be a stage for a breakaway/KOM-combat. I agree with you, it would have been a lot more action of the finish was on the Tourmalet or if they went directly into Luz Ardiden after.
