I remember Sagan gifting Oss a stage or two when they were together at Liqugas

Absolutely!

Edit: Although I didn't see how much competition there actually was for 3rd.

There was a sprinter for UHC. Other than that I did not see anyone really going for it. But we will have an exciting final after this sprint. Both would deserve it for their efforts yesterday. Alaphilippe for winning the queen stage but also Sagan for limiting his losses!

Given that Alaphilippe will take the victory due to hundreths of a second should he be tied on time with Sagan, the one second gained in the intermediate sprint will secure victory for Sagan if he finishes second on the stage with Alaphilippe third.
