It's a fair point. If Valverde is being criticized for not wasting loads of energy for a handful of seconds, why not make the same comment about the guy actually sitting in second place?

If nothing happens in the next 2 stages, this giro only had 3 really good stages for the GC (and just in general) and one of them was a timetrail

The danger in putting great stages in the 2nd week is that, if one is too strong, the last week stages become a dud.
This is why you needed a lesser climber in the lead, like Dumoulin in the Vuelta last year. Then it would be far more interesting.

Now it's just hoping for a bad day for Kruijswijk for the competition or nothing will happen.

Don't worry, he's still only 25. I'm sure he will have more chances to win a stage in the Giro, but Domont just wasn't strong enough today.
