Does anyone know what happened to Andersen? Think he was Giant's main GC hope, but finished dead last on stage 1, nearly four minutes down

Puncture with 4km to go, Giant have said Ten Dam is their GC guy for this race.

What a fail by the sprint teams

and terrible camera work too

There was strong tailwind from about 8 km to 2 km to go. No surprise they couldn't close them there coupled with the slight downhill. Before it was up and down a lot, so many teams didn't want to tire their sprinters I guess.

Not thinking about the last 10 kms. It was all too late by then. They should have gone harder on the climbs. It wouldn't have tired the best puncheurs/sprinters, based on how big the peloton was...

Haha, even Cannondale does not believe in their own riders. :D

Good stage, glad the break made it.

BTW did I see one of the Katusha riders celebrating Kristoff's 3rd place "victory"? Perhaps the peloton did not even know those two were still up there?

Yea, I also saw a Katusha rider in the left side of the peloton celebrate.

I spoke to one of the directeur sportifs at the finish line in SD yesterday - he seemed not to care about the race at all... to the point that he probably would not care to tell his riders about a two-man breakaway

That's not exactly new.

It's the Tour of California. No WT team cares about this race, they're here to fulfill sponsor obligations.
In Katusha's case, Canyon wants them here.

You are correct. At the same time, unlike TDU, this is not a mandatory race and it is the team's choice to participate.

You may talk about the TDU in January. That's it! :p

Very happy for Ben King.

Some WT teams do care about the ToC: Those WT teams with sponsors who care about it. Without the interest of some sponsors they wouldn't care, but a lot of things in cycling happen just because sponsors have an interest. And while the ToC may only be a minor race in terms of its own prestige, it's probably the minor race the most sponsors care about.

Did the Eurosports commentators say anything that wasn't sarcastic or snarky? Really unprofessional, hopefully not stuck with them.
