When the thread for every race appears ...its " its going to be boring" " Its going to be terrible" .gnashing of teeth and wailing everytime ..EVERY TIME !!

And then 80% of the time the race is very good but hey ho they do again for the next race ...

This is very true. I come to find it funny how pessimistic cycling fans are. It's the only sport I know where before a major event the predominant opinion always seems to be that it will suck.

There was a race for the hobby-riders in the lap today, 2 laps.. For us mere humans the lap seemed quite brutal, there is very little time to relax at all. I think the profile can fool you into thinking it's not that hard, but all the turns and braking and accllerating, plus the constant up and Down, is really hard. Today there was also rain and Wind to make Things even harder. I know the forecast says sunny, but it would be a small surprise if the forecast was dead wrong.
I.m thinking that the risk of mass crashes is quite high in this route, and chances of breakaway profiting from the peloton crashing, are also there.
I think it will be good TV and exciting, but of course I'm biased as I live in bergen..

Thank you for your preview. Finally not someone crying about the course. :)

It's going to be a good race. It's going to be a good race. It's going to be exciting. I'm looking forward to it. I have a positive attitude...

Nah, it's going to be boring.

Almost nobody is mentioning Gilbert. A former world champion and this year's winner of RVV and Amstel. Also, Lampaert said he was going really well in the TTT. He can go the distance, has the tactical nouse, has a sprint, and other riders may also underestimate him somewhat. Definitely a contender.

Well, some Belgians have to work, and I expect Lampaert to be one of them.

My favorites:

***** Sagan
**** Kristoff, Viviani, Gaviria
*** Trentin, Hagen, Matthews
** Colbrelli, GVA, Kwiatkowski, Stuyven, Wellens
* Mezgec, Van Poppel, Alaphilippe, Nielsen, Albasini, Gilbert, Ulissi, Arndt, Naesen, Benoot, S. Andersen, Stybar, Swift, Drucker, Moscon

My pick..Kinda hope that a group of six first could come on they own and light up the sky (not that media group tbe). If bigger group then it's all thumbs up for Gaviria

***** Sagan, Kwiat
**** Gilbert, Moscon, GVA , Trentin
*** Gaviria, Matthews, Viviani
** Colbrelli, Van Poppel, Kristoff
* whoever

Yeah I think the route is more difficult than it appears on paper. A fair amount of turns, seldom completely flat (i.e. false flat up and down all the time) and looking through street view a bit it seems that there is a bunch of road furniture too. Not really conducive to chasing breaks.

No. I know the men can handle that better because the level difference isn't as big.

You should read better. I'm talking specifically about the stretches of road. There really are quite some false flat's and tricky sections which make the course harder than it looks like on profile.

Kristoff above Matthews and GVA? Pretty questionable. I'd be surprised if he even manages to stick with the bunch after a hard 250+k race.

He's a contender, but an outside one. Let's say after Salmon Hill he has a gap to a reduced peloton, how much of a gap does he need? There's a lot of flat and it would be hard for him to make it. Gilbert has a shot if the race is very hard though.

The problem with a world championship is that it's almost almost decided in the final lap. I can't remember the last time a decisive move happened before the final lap. In spite of this you can't resist watching from more than 100 km before the finish.
The split last year was kinda decisive.

I'd say he has to race like he raced Tour of Flanders, making it a very long battle and don't wait for the final lap. Chaos is what he needs. But that almost never happens in the worlds... It would give him a higher chance I think than if he'd wait until the final lap and go head to head with the likes of Sagan and Kwia. But then again, he also managed to outsprint Kwia in the Amstel, so who knows.
