Peloton needs to push on now and make the sprinter teams give up on the stage. A stitch in time saves 9.
I can sense an agenda in this post.

There is 100% an agenda - When you have someone whinging about the team helping Chaves try to go from 4th to 3rd in stage 20 of the 2016 Vuelta which may have dropped which may have caused S.Yates to drop from 5th to 6th - And remember Chaves gave permission for S.Yates to get a stage win at that Vuelta.

Yates dropped from 5th to 6th on stage 19 because the team helped Chaves go from 4th to 3rd on stage 20?

Just saw a long line of them midway down the peloton. They are there.

Question is if Modolo is there too. Eurosport commentators say he isn’t, but EF are working.

@Тhe Chicken : So do you really think that someone is able to put 2 minutes on Etna ? Yates softpedaled the whole climb and he had an energy. Yes, he was really strong, but keep in mind that just after his attack all the other contenders just watched each other for a while, which helped for a bigger gap.
Although I agree that the gap could be a bit bigger (not more than 5 seonds) because I think SY slowed down for Chaves. However, this is a grand total of 10 seconds which deffo wont be crucial and the team spirit costs way more than this 10 seconds.

The only reason Yates could get away in the end, is because the other contenders teams, had spent everything keeping Chavez close.... otherwise everyone would have been on his wheel instantly.

The whole point (baring crashes), to a team having two contenders is, that you can whittle down the opponents teams during a big stage, by one of them attacking and the other holding off.

And you just know that at the end of the stage
Chavez will put on a genuine smile and say life is beautiiful.
Great guy.
He'll probably just do it to spite Yates and cost him time though. /s

Maybe Dan McLay is still around instead.

Well if not 2 minutes I think certainly think over 1 minute. The other contenders looked around because they were all ****ed. Yates was breathing through his nose at that point. If SY loses this Giro by <1 minute he can look to that Etna stage which cost him the race and blame Chavez. As we all know, Chavez being in that break was not even in the MS plan so what the heck was he thinking anyway?

This just isn’t true. It was the other favourites, not their domestiques, who would be expected to close down an attack like that from a contender. The other favourites had not by and large been working at that point.

Chaves being up the road provided Yates with a potential tactical advantage, but that advantage did not in fact materialise as his rivals didn’t spend energy chasing.

Frapporti has still 15 km of climbing. If he arrives on the top with 2 minutes it will be difficult to bring him back. After the KOM there are 10 km descent and 15 flattish.

Don't see this happening. A solo rider winning a stage from 80km out with so many riders in the main peleton behind, I doubt it very much unless they make a huge mistake. I think we will see the gap start to fall quite quickly very soon.

This one of the hardest stages of the Giro this year even if only Chaves might be the one losing a lot of time in the GC... this stage will take its toll for real on everybody

Ofcourse you use your domestiques first - while you have them :)

Bora twitter account says their whole team made the front group. That should mean that Yates has nothing to worry about as they will very much want to keep things together for a sprint
Benedetti and Schillinger are not there but yes they do have doms left like Pfingsten and Grosschartner

I mixed up seeing McLay at the ToC on Sunday with the Gran Sasso d'Italia stage. What a little sleep deficit can do with your cognitive ability. :D

Yeah, Van Asbroeck was the second EF sprinter at the Giro I was looking for. I'm not THAT stupid after all.

lol you can't call me a troll just because you disagree with me. I am not the only one who thinks Chavez cost SY time on the Etna stage.
