lol they are going to get caught

Not much winning from the Dutch there.
Yeah, at first I thought vd Breggen would win easily, but they started doing 0 kp/h

Then I thought they would at least win the sprint, but apart from having the perfect train nobody really sprinted apart from Vos. Epic **** up.

Yeah, my assurance that it wouldn't end in a bunch sprint didn't go to well either. To be fair, any reasonably ridden race would not have ended in a bunch sprint.

Amazing stuff from Longo Borghini. Absolutely would not work for second. She wasn’t bluffing at all. In a two up group with a far better sprinter, she knew it was attack or sit on, nothing else.
No Mollemaing going there.

Hard to get a grasp of the Dutch tactics, raid hard in every group and hope everyone else pops

While Longo Borghini was ruthlessly maximizing the chances of an Italian gold, even at the expense of guaranteed silver for herself, I confess that I have no idea at all what AVDB was doing. She wins that match sprint every single time. It was as if Mollema sat on in San Sebastián and then Alaphillipe responded by also sitting up. The Dutch decision making in that race was absolutely bizarre throughout

Yeah, that was truly odd.

As not that big of an expert on women's cycling, I got confused because the Danish commentator kept assuring us that Longo Borghini was much, much faster than van der Breggen. But I thought that was bullcrap and was very confused by her riding.

Hilarious tactics by the dutch

Vos pulling the peloton back into the race when otherwise the peloton would be out of it and the dutch had 2 riders in a brilliant position in the move ahead. That was the most indefensible one, she ruined a brilliant tactical position.

VDB not pulling ELB to the line even when she would likely have won the sprint. Odd, but at least slightly defensible if she had absolutely nothing left in the legs

I'm not going to criticize Vos not pulling the sprint for Wiebes because that may have been the designated pre-race plan, to have 2 sprinters.

Then to put the cherry on the sundae, Mackaaij with the worst leadout of the season, boxes Wiebes in (along with almost every other sprinter). Obviously not bad tactics by Wiebes, just bad luck, but still in keeping with their day. Not a good day at the office.

Longo Borghini gambled big and it came up trumps. Well done.

Well, the difference is that she had a fast teammate in the chasing group.

So hows the circuit? You reckon its hard enough for a selective race next Sunday?

Hard to tell actually. This would never have been a sprint today in a million years if the front two hadn’t sat up entirely, but it’s hard to see the big guns of the men’s race attacking all day in the same way the big guns of the women’s race did. There are certainly opportunities to get a gap if the riders go for it.

weather permitting I might take a cycle over and watch the TT, Slightly unfit right now so the Crow rd might kill me....if it rains in the road race it will be carnage, they small cobbles in town will be as deadly as ice

I’ll be watching closer to town, goes past my work. Crow has had the top resurfaced, much less draggy now.

Men’s race will depend on the riders. There’s probably enough in there to get gaps, but it’ll need some big efforts.

That was bizare indeed how sure they sounded Borghini was faster, when everyone else would think the opposite. They got saved from a big embarrassment there..
