Simon lost only one second to Roglic on the climb
and that is supposed to be good, I thought he was a better climber than Roglic

Roglic is flying at the mo - if anyone can find a decent list of intermediate times we can confirm, but it looks like they're both c. 20 seconds ahead of the pack on a 2km climb. I've got better feelings about Yates maintaining that over 3 weeks than Roglic.

I think Nibali or Dumoulin looks the best, simmering form, ready to build towards 3rd week. Roglic and Yates a bit hot, MAL surprised me, will definitely be a threat now.

Lol.

If Yates is a bit hot, then MAL is completely over the top and gone to seed.

And even if MAL is at 100%, Tom should be able to beat him on tick over.

Yeah, Ciccone was fastest, then Roglic/Yates, then 20s to De Plus (!), Lopez, Nibali Dumoulin and co. Obviously not a straight comparison because of pacing (Nibali went hard on the flat, Dumoulin went quite slowly, Yates slow but is that just his best?), but Roglic I'd say is a fair bit ahead of others right now. Needless to say the number of variables is such that nobody knows who will be pink in fair verona.

It was a perfect stage for Roglic and he delivered. Very good defending by Nibali, in line with expectations. Proper performance by Yates on a climb that suit him well. Unexpected strong performance on the flat by MAL. Dumoulin slightly less than what he's capable. The Giro is on.

Dumoulin looks by no means the best! This is his sort of stage, he was supposed to have the TTs as his advantage, and he loses to Yates, Nibali and López who even beat him on the flat part.

He looks worse than expected and has been bad all spring. I don't think he will get on the podium, honestly.

I really don't get all this. GT riders are supposed to be good for three weeks, and they usually are.

And Simon Yates has clearly been underdoing it so far this season. Surely, he does not look too good right now. Roglic maybe, but Yates; definitely not.

I also think Landa was the biggest disappointment of the day because there were 6 big favourites for the race; 5 of them did top 5 today, Landa was 36. Very bad. Zakarin was even worse, but I didn't have high expectations for him. Sosa was still worse but it really looks like he has no intentions of trying for the GC.

Surprisingly good performances by Majka, De Plus and Mollema, and I really would not have bet on Víctor de la Parte going top 12!
