Masnada needs to stop trying to drop Conti then!Pantani_lives said:They can make a deal: Masnada the stage, Conti the pink. A stage win would be great for Androni G.
The 2010 giro had an epic strade stage that Cadel Evans wonAmazinmets87 said:The Chicken said:King Boonen said:The Chicken said:Stage 1 aside, this race has been a borin' borefest thus far. I thought the Giro of Italy was meant to be exciting and unpredictable and stuff.
They've stacked the back end of the race and put some very long stages up front with the hope of stopping mountain trains dominating the fun bits. It's a slow burn but hopefully it'll work out.
Well I think they overdid the back end stacking. They should've given us *something* by now to keep us entertained & interested & awake.
I for one would love to see a mini strade bianche stage in the first week. 25KM of dirt roads. I really enjoyed the cobbled tour stages. Maybe strade doesn't have the prestige of yet

He's no Chiappucci. He might survive the time trial and one mountain stage in pink, but he doesn't become a threat for the final victory.JosephK said:If the gaps hold as they are now (with about 20K to go), Conti would be leading the Giro by more than 4 minutes. Is Jumbo giving up too much time?

Oomen isnt a threatBroccolidwarf said:Just switched on.
Can someone explain why the other teams are handing Oomen 7 minutes, which means Sunweb again has an overall contender to ride for?
I think Oomen becomes a candidate for the top 10, but I don't think he's strong enough for a podium. He might be slightly ahead of Roglic after today, but that won't be enough.Broccolidwarf said:Just switched on.

Normally I would agree with you but you never know with Androni this yearSquire said:The biggest mountain stages will produce gaps approaching double-digits between the 1st and the ~15th rider. None of the riders in the breakaway are a threat.

I agree, they were stunning in Tour of the Alps.
I do think Oomen is the greater overall threat though, over a 3 week race. - He is a young GC contender in training, who - I remind you - got 9th overall at last years Giro.
Handing him 7 minutes, when he had already lost 6 helping Dumoulin, seems weird to me.
I do understand Jumbo wanting to lose the jersey this early in the race, but I don't understand the size of the gap..... Conti was only 2 minutes ahead - no need to give them 7!
